From reading the reviews of cdma version v9m on verizon and sprint the number one reason for returning the phone is horriblely short battery life (ie 20mins of use in a 24hrs and it stone dead) and or rechanging charging problems. Whats the life like on the GSM V9 like ? For the cdma V9m I wouldnt buy one until there a fix on the power management/quality control issue the cdma v9ms are having.

I sincerely doubt anyone is getting 20 mins of use in a 24hr period and the phone dies. Unless the battery or phone is defective. I regularly get 3~4 hours of talk time on my V9 with about an hour of mp3 playing at full volume and around 20 or so texts.

Charge it every night and you'll get a full days use out of it.

Ok Im glad to here your having normal battery life, but on the verizon and sprint postings here , phone scoop, cnet, etc.... about one out of four posts are complaining about sub standard battery life with v9m and the most popular reason I read for v9m returns is lousy battery life or charging issues. that why I ask. Im month to month on verizon and I was possiblely going to get v9m on ne2, but the quality control and battery life issues with v9m wanting to wait for other verizon phone release or maybe to try att, because there service is equal to verizon were I work , live and play.

Verizon and Sprint postings about the V9m have NOTHING to do with the AT&T V9. They're 2 completely different beasts. I'm sure the V9 gets similar battery life to my V3xx (2-3 hours of talk time depending on how much I'm playing with the phone's other features.)

Not to mention, I don't see how the V9m could be getting such ridiculously lousy battery life in any way, shape, or form. CDMA phones eat battery but not THAT badly. I can tell you, however, part of the reason the Verizon V9m sucks is because of Verizon's UI that basically destroys the phone.

Hey Ive got a question Ironcross do you have problems with java apps. Where every time you launh the app eventhough it formally installed on the phone, does your v3xx keeps asking you security permission to use the application it every time you re open or even during mid secession with a java a application(ie google maps or games)? I've read that bug caused some people to return v3xx due to the fact it was making non factory install java apps almost impossible to use due to v3xx constant request for secutity premissions. Use of java apps would be one big plus in favor of my move over to att so I would want a java friendly phone. Im courious what youer experance has been witn v3xx. Bob S.

PS I can get the v3xx almost for free though several outlets, So if I could move over to att with a nice de bugged phone , that would be cool too.

The "java nag" is prevalent in any Motorola released by at&t and has to do with apps being "signed" ie. trusted by the carrier. The solution to this is to remove the at&t added java_registry.sm from the phone to remove the nag. The downside is that you will no longer be able to use signed at&t apps like Mobile Email, etc.

Ive read slight different versions of the nag, If the nag just comes up ONCE when you launch new secession of the jave application I can live with that, but ive also read were on some java app the security window keep poping up incessantly while your using the java application and lots of times crashing the application and hard locking the phone (worse case). I can live one time start up nag, but mulitple in secession nag , no. Oh btw what phones dont suffer form the nag, Nokia , LG, or samy?

20 mins? something is not right. Its about the same as the v3xx, basically the only difference is the bigger external screen which uses a bit more power, so you should be able to get 3-4 hours of talktime out of it when on 3g mode, even double that on edge or gprs

Yeah Ive read alot of posts on verizon v9m where peeps are on their second and thrid returns to verizon because of sub standard battery life on the v9m, were as on the sprints v9m Ive only read maybe four post about battery issuses. My current phone with verizon v3m isnt a battery champ either , if I forget to charge it for two days(maybe 2hrs of use tops) Ive got a phone that almost got zero battery life left. Im thinking when verizons installed there pos ui and cripple ware ,they screw up the power management programing. I know there was great difference in battery life between my old e815 (native motorola ui could go 4 days with my pattern of phone use befor charging) and v3m. So maybe verizon hosed the v9m power management firmware?

My subjective opinion of the V9's battery life is that it is very slightly worse than the Krzr K1, so it's still pretty good. I have yet to have mine go down during a business day.

If you are on a 3G fringe area, you might extend your battery life by keeping your network settings on 850/1900 instead of Automatic (if you have that choice).

Hey guys any one else got a oppion on the att v9 battery life, good bad or indifferent? Love to hear form you.

If you are looking into buying a V9 and the 4 hours of talk time is a big concern for you, look into unlocking the network options or buy a phone with the network options already unlocked.

If you are in a 3G area and you do not need data or WCDMA voice security, then manually locking to 850/1900 (GSM) in a strong signal area will extend your battery life to more than double the WCDMA rating. It's up around 8.5 hours with the phone locked on 850/1900, in my personal experience.

Your mileage may vary, of course. I usually have five bars of either 850 or 1900 in the entire area I work, live and travel.

why is battery time still an issue with all phones out there pretty much, it seems like we've had the same stated battery life for the last 6yrs and no phone ever lives up to whats stated

But sometime like cars , cell phones dont even come close to manfactors claims, There still threads here and elsewhere about lousy battery life with verizon version of v9m, people talking old school (ie nickel hi ) condictioning the battery for best life. There are several post talking about not using his for a week or so he full charge down to zero and full charge 3 time so he could get so he was finally getting 2hrs of talk time. Personally Im comming to the conclusion when verizon's molesting the v9m with their ui and crippled firmware they hosed power mangement programing or have a bad batch of batterys or a combination of both. I realize that with the v9's huge screens, music/video players and highspeed web access it not going to have stellar 6hours talk 10days stand by, but I want a phone that will atleast cover my nomoral pattern of use (2 to 3 hours of talk and web use over 3day period), My current v3m need to be charge daily or it craps out the next day. So I want my next phone with ethier att or verizon to have decent battery life to cover my normal use and I think the v9 issue verizon have is due to a power management bug they created.
