I used this driver (registration required - you can find it elsewhere if you look) http://developer.motorola.com/docstools/USB_Drivers/ I used version 4.9.C of p2kcommander http://s5vi.vxxxstuff.com/commander/ Once the drivers are installed - the handset was recognized for me as a modem. I went to the modem properties and noted its com port. To get p2kcommander to detect the phone i went to options - Check use this com port - and set the box to comX - where X is the com port number of the motorola usb modem I also used new(fast) 3G-P2K commands. - you are looking for the Uusb p2k device found or P2K Tci IF up messages; Volume name fail! & GENERIC FAILURE. are normal- Once you have p2kcommander connected - you can drop your ringtones (mp3 files) in the following folder: a/brew/mod/my_ringers/ Then brows to a/ and delete MyToneDB.db and TmpTneDB.db Restart the phone and you should be able to use the new mp3 files as ringtones. PM me if you are having problems at any stage - Getting p2kcommander to detect the phone proved to be the tricky part. |

The files must be extracted to your hard drive. All of them, not just the P2kcommander.exe. |

When you specify the com port you can't just put the number of the com port. For example if your phone is in com port 4 you must enter COM4 and NOT simply 4. This was the mistake that I made. I hope this helps somebody

Having said that, I do have Bluetooth on my 385. I am able to connect to my phone through my Mac laptop and transfer pictures and mp3's. Is there a way of using bluetooth to help run pk2commander wirelessly? Is there a Mac version of pk2commander? (I do not have bluetooth on my PC desktop) Thanks kindly! |

After I had uploaded them I went to Media Gallery>Sounds on the phone and selected each song, hit Options and did Apply As Ring Tone which makes it your main ringer. I don't know if that step makes a difference or not, but it worked the first time so I kept on doing it for each song I uploaded. After that I was able to go to Contacts and set them as id ringers. |
