Help...bought the wrong phone!!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

So I was on Ebay and I bought a phone (treo 650) and it didn't say anywhere about what service provider it was through. So I ended up winning except I got a message later saying that the phone was locked to cingular. So, I was wondering if I could unlock it and put it on Verizon. Is this possible? I think it is but I have heard people talk about GSM and other conflicts.

How is the treo 650?? IS it possible to run windows mobile on it??

THANKS FOR THE HELP

No, you cannot convert a GSM phone to run on a CDMA network. GSM & CDMA are 2 different hardware sets & are comepletely incompatible with each other.

Windows mobile COULD concievably run on a 650, but it'd require far more hacking than any normal person would want to undertake. by itself the 650 is an excellent phone though. I had one for 2 years before I got my 700.

you should probably just sell the phone you bought & buy the correct one :/

If you want Palm OS on VZW- buy the Treo 700wx

If you want Win. Mobile on VZW- buy the Treo 700p (755p is coming soon tho!)

If you want Win. Mobile on T-Mobile/ AT&T- buy the Treo 750

If you want Palm OS on T-Mobile/ AT&T- buy the Treo 680

What are your daily tasks? It all recommends on what you do. I know that if you are a MAJOR texter and are constantly making calls and checking your calendar. Its Palm OS all the way.

If you are more push email, outlook syncer, corporate head.. its Windows Mobile all the way.

ADMITTING: I have a Treo 700w yes, I am a Palm OS and Win. Mobile user! I feel like a fraud!

jk, that was for kabuki but I really do have a 700w, it sits in my closet

I had to laugh at this thread, but I've been there before not knowing the difference between CDMA and GSM.

I'm sure everyone has.

I'd go with Palm OS though, just from what I've been reading the past week or so. Actually waiting on my Palm Treo 680 to arrive in the mail. It'll be my second (didn't really use the first, just re-sold it fast) smartphone. Can't wait to start using it over my V3i.

I actually gave my Palm to a friend who lives in Seattle. He said it would work there but whatever. SO thanks for all of your help anyway!!!!! I would of went out and bought a different treo but I heard there is NO VCAST??? And I know it's a ripp-off but I could not live with out that feature.

THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP(I know NOTHING about treos only LG)

no there is no vCast. the Sprint versions have their own thing tho. AT&T's doesn't either.

You don't need VCast, just get Mobi TV directly (they provide the service for Sprint and AT&T, don't know about Verizon)

To the OP, you could have gotten a Cingular SIM off eBay for next to nothing and tried it out - no contract to sign. (But NOT for streaming anything $$$)
