newbie needs help

Hey just got a htc 6700 and have been trying to get it to work on cricket. It was supposedly flashed already and cricket already has the esn #. In fact the phone has my # on it but I cant get *228 to work or 611 it keeps saying phone not registered in your area. can anyone please help.
