Sending phones to get fixed sending cross the border

Hi i was wondering what i need to do to send a phone to get fixed in the States. I live in Toronto Canada and want to send it to the states to fix. What do i need to declare the value of the phone and will i or the other person be charged for duties? please help asap thanks!
