Samsung i600 users-need your input

Had this posted in the Samsung section but didn't get much action on it.....

Hi
I have just purchased an i600 on Ebay, after seeing folks say they loved it. I called Cingular twice. Once I was told it would not work, next time I was told it would work fine. So, which is it? I wanted WiFi, so that is why I looked at i600 rather than the i607.

So can some people who have/had the i600 connected here in the US tell me what the real story is? I guess I am having buyers remorse, wondering if I screwed up. Oh well, I should be able to get most of my $$ out of it. I hope...

I understand there are some issues regarding 3G, but I don't really have 3G where I live, but will have coverage once in a while if I travel. I really mostly need a phone with good cell voice service, and occasional data usage.

Update: Now I'm even more confused. Now I see the device described on Amazon and other sites as "Quad band, 850, 900, 1800, 1900..." So which is it?

Tell me what you think

Thanks in advance.

I did a search first, but got info that seemed to be both positive and negative.
After further review, I think I messed up and will have spotty coverage in the rural parts of Texas since I am missing the 850 mhz band.

Look for my next post in the "GSM Marketplace" forum!

I think you are right on, you wont have GGG coverage. Edge/GPRS should work fine though.

You will probably have degraded service indoors, where 850 makes a BIG difference.

i600 is tri-band and lacks 850Mhz band. Without it, your service coverage will be very limited. I wouldn't waste money on it unless you know your local area has 1900Mhz coverage.
