iPhone sim in 3G phone?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

If I took my iPhone sim and placed it in a 3G phone would I get 3G service and speed or would I be still stuck with Edge? I couldn't find a thread with this question so I apologize if this has been posted before. Thanks!

Good question...

Unfortunately 3G isn't something thats in the SIM cards. Its a chip that actually inside the phone itself. So even if you have a 3G SIM card, unless the phone has 3G capabilities you're not to be able to get 3G speeds.

Though, if the phone you are putting the SIM card in is a 3G capable phone, you should be able to get the speeds. Though be careful...unless you have a data package the price per kb is unreal for 3G.

Actually that's the question I wanted to raise. Even though I have the iPhone data plan, would it cost any more? I've stuck my sim into a T-mobile SDA to see what would happen, and I got the warning saying that there would be a cost per kb, gave the okay and started surfing. However I got my first bill and I don't see any per kb charges at all.

Well, if I understand right...

Since you're on T-Mobile you're not going to be able to utilize the 3G network anyhow. So you would just be using your carriers standard data network, so therefore you shouldnt be charged for 3G service.

I have seen a few people say that they have used their SIM i the Blackjack without any issues or any additional data charges, but has anyone experienced the opposite? Any extra charges?

Thanks
