pop mail disappearing

Ok, this is probably a general WM6 question, but here goes. I have gmail set up as a pop mail account on my phone. I have Mail.app on my mac set to get mail from the same account. If my phone gets the mail first, the mail is still available to be downloaded by my mac later. Once I get it on my mac, the mail disappears from my phone. If my mac gets it first, the mail never makes it's way to my phone. I have both my phone and mac set to leave messages on the server after retrieving them. I also have set in gmail's preferences to leave messages in the inbox after being downloaded through POP.
What I want to accomplish is have all my mail available both on my phone, and my mac without having to sync. Since they are both using the same POP source it shouldn't be a problem.
Has anyone else had this same problem or have any workarounds?

Do you by anychance have recent: in front of your email settings for the pop server?

no, but i remember having that there and i removed it several weeks ago. should i put it back?

I don't believe so, but it's strange that you're having the issue with mail.app and not on the phone, usually the problems are the other way around.

it just seems so strange that if i have a mail on my phone, then download the same message on my computer that it disappears from my phone. I can't explain it at all.
i deleted my gmail account from the phone and added it again. I noticed my username was preceded by "recent:" so I left it there. luckily, it worked and now i can sync them both without losing messages on either.

If using recent mode, be careful deleting messages. There's a side effect that moves your email to the trash on gmail if you delete it off of your phone using recent mode.
