I am interested in buying a new device I can use for web browsing, IMing, and *gasp* making phone calls.

Currently have Nextel (i730,

), but am out of contract and don't like any of their "smart" phones. Then again, I haven't used any of them either.

The Helio seems sleek, unique, and a friend of mine just got one and likes it very much. I have yet to take a look at it beyond a flash demo on their website.

The iphone - well, I hear good things too, but am not really a fan of apple products. No real reason, just anti-sack-rider I guess.

The mogul - looks good for browsing, but seems it is pretty bulky as well.

I'm not up to date on all the newer geek toys, so if there are better devices out there I should look at, please enlighten me.

you can look through the phone battles and see what seems to be the most popular.

i'm not into helio.

If you want to go htc, the tytn II (in us kaiser) would be the way to go.

If you want to go nokia. check out the n95 (either us 3g version or 8gig version)

also nokia e90 is on point.

these are on the higher end of the spectrum for newest up to date phones. also more expensive.

that's a good place to start i guess.

Thanks for the advice. I'll take a look at some of those and see what I can come up with.

Main thing is I don't want a huge phone. I want one that is good for IM's, and semi-OK for browsing. Just something to use on the go when I don't want to fire up my laptop.

well that's not that much of a biggy.

you have choices of the instant messenger program you want to install
same with the broswer (alot of people add opera mini or operamobile)

the default nokia broswer for the most part is awesome.

it's nice to have lots of choices when it comes to software so you mainly have to worry about what phone and what phone specs.'

but then again sidekicks and helios come with aim installed, but i prefer my freedom!

I just checked out the N95 and was very impressed. However, a phone with that kinda features should have a qwerty keyboard imo. Is there anything as awesome with qwerty?

nokia e62 rocks for IMing, web browsing, and phone calls, but an e61 or e61i would be better, although you'd have to find a different IMing app for it as the e62 uses AT&T's IM app which works very well on it. They have awesome keyboards

may also look into 8525 as well
