Why do you make things so small? Go bigger Please!

When I look at what is out there now I am disgusted. Teeny buttons! itty bitty displays? Paper thin? Would it kill you manufactures to offer something that is BIG?

I am legally blind, I have some sight but it isn't perfect. I would like to ask if someone would consider building a phone that could be a help for the disabled. Heres my wish list:

1. Make it Cordless phone sized! or even a bag phone! There are people with mobility limitations that can't use the tiny things!
2. Make the display bigger
3. Some of us don't need the extra bells and whistles. ie: Bluetooth or WIFI or any of the other geegaws you manufactures love to toss in. For some, a basic large Cell phone that can do basic text messaging is fine!
4. Do we need paper thin (Motorola slvr & Razr)? Come on! I need a tactile keyboard with easily located, by touch, keys.
5. What is it with and the obsession with flip phones? They are very delicate as the hinges have all the wiring in them. If the hinge breaks... your electronics are not too far after that. (Nokia 6255i)

I totally agree. I am a bigger guy which includes thicker fingers. Those little buttons are a rough to push. I think there can be a happy medium if a some research was done.

Likewise for the totally blind. They need the widely spaced keys that are easily located

I know there is a market out there but I haven't seen the different advocacy groups from the Federation of the Blind or AARP encouraging manufactures to make larger phones. We need your help people!

As you pointed out... Even fully able people would like to have a bigger phone as an option.

To the OP, demographics shows they can rake in more $$$ to the younger crowd who're hooked on SMS and IM. For the folks to just want a "regular" phone, it's becoming more difficult to find a replacement when a previous phone dies (ie, my dad.)

as time passings.. and memorys disappear in the flows of time.. stuff like that will happen.. weather you like it or not.. things will continue to get smaller and smaller.. exception of few things. this is natural because as technology increases things will get smaller.. our planet is running out of resoources so making things smaller using less resources is the future. say good bye to buttons.. voice reconition... however you se\pell it will take over.. but im sure its not gonna be anytime soon in your life time.

There are markets that haven't really focused on small phones yet, specifically Japan. A lot of their phones are huge compared to ours but they also are very feature intensive.

Every now and then you'll have a phone that is made for the elderly with large buttons and a large monochrome screen, but they never do that well. Some new motorolas (like the V8) actually have a talking phone feature to aid the blind or simply handsfree usage. The phone will dictate to you where you are in the menu as you scroll around as well as read out caller ID, sms messages and the keys you are pressing when you type.
