can some of you give me some advice on a good set of headphones? I can't seem to find a pair i like, i currently have the bose oe headphones(weak in the bass department),bose in ears are itchy, the v-modas sounded good at moderate volume but when pushed started to distort, sony's handle bass well butt are built cheaply and wear out. I listen to a variety of heavy music quite loud at times butt still want more than just a boomy set of headphones. Please help!

what about the shure headphones?

Posted by: rob_bora

maybe I'll give them a try thanx

Posted by: BethanyBoo

I'm not sure if this is still true, but a couple days ago Shure E2C's were $40 on amazon with free shipping.

Posted by: rob_bora

I have heard they lack in the bass department is this true

Posted by: knowledge_6

what ever happend to those few companies that were suppose to release iphone compatible headphones with all the features built in?

ie. mic, stop, and play.

i have the e3c- they don't lack in the bass dept imo- unless you're type to want subwoofer type bass pumping in your car. make sure the ear piece is seated correctly (i.e. tight fit in your ear canal), and you should be fine. i also had the e2c- while i think the e2 fits better in my canal, the sound is better in the e3.

now. if you just want all bass with good isolation from outside noise- koss' "the plug"- works well. and if you never use shure's you'll think these things are the best things since ...well, the best things ever.

once you try the shures' however, you'll realize that while the bass is def. there, everything else seems muffled.

also note that shures= pricey, koss= very cheap. both give good isolation from outside noise- shures= clarity, koss= bass.

The New Shure SE110...I'm getting those at the end of the week.

I'm pretty happy with my Bose earpieces. They're not great for sports because they tend to fall out (they just rest in the bowl of your ear), but if you're sitting at you desk at work, or relaxing somewhere, the sound is absolutely AWESOME! $129 list. Also, they're the most comfortable because they don't put any pressure on your ear canal.

For aircraft, I like the Etymotic in-ear 'phones for the noise isolation. $129 list, < $90 street. Additionally, because of the noise isolation, you don't need much volume to hear the full range of the music and that also saves on battery power and your hearing!

The V-Moda vibe (pre-iPhone) have also been pretty good for me as they're easier to use then the Etymotics and still have a bit of noise isolation, though not as complete because they're not completely "in-ear".

Hope this helps!

I am getting the Shure SE 110's today and I ordered a Sedio adapter online that has a mic built in so I can use them as a headset

Sennheiser px100. German built. They have great sound for the money and come with a fantastic case.

LOL. Double-check where they put the mic on that headset. Yeah, that's right - right next to the jack.

I was highly disappointed that the plug on my Grado Labs SR60s didn't sink in far enough. Is there a very short extension to accomodate normal plug sizes that don't fit all the way in? I'm not big on earbuds. I like the fat-daddy DJ style (but I also don't walk around in public listening to my iPhone).

That is one possible location(but a very dumb one)
The proper location to put it with the SE 110's is where the extension meets the normal cord(which 9 inches below the head which isnt great, but its not what you are making it out to be. Without using the extension that comes with all shure headphones I do admit that the microphone wouldnt make much sense(unless my mouth was in my pocket with my iphone)

a couple days ago.. the earphones to buy were the shure E2C's

Posted by: campas21

i'm actually going to pick up the seidio adapter- the biggest annoyance for me= tkaing out iphone, unlocking, hitting ipod, then hitting fast fwd- then relocking before putting back in pocket. with this, i can just click away!!!

the mic position- i don't care since
1. i barely use the phone as a phone (i use about 30mins a mo
2. when using phone i never use headset/mic. i'd rather pop out headphone and take the call.

i'm waiting for the vmoda vibe duo control. which is supposed to come out mid september. and i'm getting frustrated because it's the 19th!

Emailed them and they said late Sept.

They'll just keep saying this month so you don't buy a pair of headphones now and wait for theirs...

ya your probably right. they better release them in september or i'll be pissed. i'm getting tired of waiting for them.

Posted by: campas21

damn.

i currently use my e3c with an adapter similar to the belkin one. i hate the fact it sticks out so much. so now i'm thinking of picking up the se210- but i'm worried they're going to be crappier than the e3c's that i have.

what to do what to do!!??

Posted by: canadian studen

I actually gave in and altered my e2c, i must say that i am really really happy that i did. And now i have a great pair of headphones, too go with my iPhone.

Posted by: nfnx

seriously... they made the earphone jac too deep and i cant use my stupid shure e4c's

is there anywhere to buy an extension so that i can actually use my earphones....

Wow... such a weird transition reading this thread and hearing people say Shure ( ) and Bose ( ). I come from a technology forum http://www.genmay.com/ and since for the most part the people there love technology and have a strong grasp on it, the answer to this question is usually the same as mine.

SENNHEISER!! If you prefer open-back (lighter, more comfortable, sounds more natural, however outside noise comes in and the headphone noise leaks out) I recommend the HD-555. If you prefer closed-back (more soundproof, isolated) then I recommend the HD-250 Pro. Both pairs of headphones will give you great frequency response all the way up, and all the way down.

Alternatively, if you can swing it, GRADO. They simply make the best headphones. Period. However, at a lower price point you'll be better off with the Senns.

Edit: and to answer your question about needing an adapter... yes, for both of these you will, but I recommend the Apple made adapter that came with the original iPod nano sport case. It's selling on e-bay for under $10

What do you mean you altered them? As in you just trimmed the plastic on the connector? I'm seriously thinking of modding mine, but not just trimming the connector, I want the apple mic and clicker with the shure headphones. So I'm thinking of cutting the wires on the headphones and connecting the apple wire with the shure headphone buds.

Anyone done this?

Posted by: nfnx

thats an expensive test

Posted by: knowledge_6

u can mod whatever earphones you have, just as long as the back can come off and u can de-solder the wires, and use with the OEM ones u got in the box.

Yes I just trimmed them down, and even though i would like too be able too switch songs with a switch, or like my SE BT stero headphones. I'll just like with it like that for now. Until I feel like spending some more money on headphones.

Posted by: drm309

....or you could trim the end of the headphone jack...i just did that with my dependable Phillips headphones....Fits like a glove, there are no exposed wires

Posted by: mrebean

im in the same boat you are. depends on how much you want to spend, how you are going to use them and what type of music you listen to. here is one near the top of my list though:

you can also check out www.head-fi.org. its like the howardforums of headphones

Posted by: brealmp3

do any that they sell right now have a mic built in? Besides the apple ones of course

Posted by: mrebean

look at my post above yours. that one does as well as the new v-moda vibe duos

Posted by: therealest

yes they have the vmoda vibe duo but those do not have a clicky thingy so i'm not interested they will be coming out with a vmoda vibe duo control hopefully by the end of september. those are the ones that i will be picking up. it's up to you now. i'm sure there are more choices than that but those are the ones i am interested in.

Posted by: brealmp3

guess I will be holding on to my 100 bucks a little longer then...

Posted by: therealest

ya thats your best bet. but i'm getting frustrated.
