iphone can't place calls with 2 bars?

My phone will fail to make a call if the reception is at two bars, anyone else experience anything like this... the reception is great all around my house, except in my actual room.

The signal fluctuates from 1 bar to 4 bars constantly, I've not experienced anything like this before and I live in an area with good coverage.

Is this a phone problem or cingular issue?

Thanks!

Could just be an ATT issue, because i can get service in my house but when im in my room, i have 2 bars and i still cant make a call. So yeah...it sucks!

I'm using the iPhone on T-Mobile. Last night the bars were all over the place for a short while. I don't get the best coverage in my house, but it usually doesn't jump around that much. Thank God I'm moving!

it's weird, because I just made a call, no problems in my room, sitting in my usual spot with 4 bars, but sometimes, it will drop down to two and I can't in the same spot?

That issue has been reported a number of times already in the forum. I have raised this issue with Apple and AT&T - each points the finger at the other. I have another AT&T phone, and it doesn't display this behavior. So my 2 cents - it is an Apple issue - but they won't admit it.

I've made calls in side a UPS hub with no bars and didnt have a problem but sometimes I'll have a bar or to and it just says call failed

so is it a problem with all iphones or just certain handsets? if its just certain handsets i may as well return it and try my luck with another...

I think its an Apple issue. I used to have a blackjack and I was able to place calls even with zero bars! I even lose signal walking around NYC. Never had that problem with my other phones!

So has anyone had this issued rectified with a replacement iphone? I see from the archives that this is a common issue.

I have an appointment on Saturday with the genius bar.

If they refuse to replace it, can I exchange the phone without a restocking fee for another, am still within the 14 days.

Yeah I have reception issues too, I drop calls a lot and my bars jump around all the time. One minute I'll have full, then it will suddenly jump down to nothing for a minute or so then jump back to full. It's weird.

Maybe we should start posting our model numbers?

FA712

...unless they're all the same lol.

Mine says A1203, it started doing it today with 4 bars, this is ridiculous. If the next one doesn't work right, I am done with the phone. It's awesome technology, but just doesn't work well for me.

Sorry to say, but I think its a problem with all the phones. I took my phone to the Genius Bar because I was having problems connecting with Wi-Fi and the reception kept jumping around, and he just replaced it, no questions asked. Problem is that this new phone is doing the same thing. I got my phone July4th so it was one of the first batches in the stores, and this last one they gave me was the latest version but the reception still sucks

that is terrible, i will see what they say tomorrow at the genius bar, I have a friend with one of the early versions and he has had no issues, so I am hopeful that my experiences are atypical

I'm no expert at all but I think it's a terrible idea that the antenna is on the bottom. It's right where your hand goes when you hold it. I'm 99% sure thats part of the issue because whenever i'm in my office I just plug in the iPhone buds and use them (mostly because they're nice and loud compared to the ****** earpiece) the reception stays pretty steady.

i have issues of the bars jumping around also, where as on my n95, they solid as anything, i notice the other day while driving with my friend my iphone went to no bars and his w810 was solid full bars. I take notice because of all the issues i hear about reception. I also that same day had 2 vm and never even heard the phone ring and it was on my hip, i was in a quite enviroment also. Its nice phone, or media machine i would say, but i need the phone part first and foremost
