one small quirk...always have a voicemail on startup?

the phone is unlocked, everything works perfect.
during the unlock period, my Pops called and left me a voicemail. i figured it was no big deal as i actually got the message when everything was done and working...
...but...
everytime i turn the phone off and turn it back on, it tells me i have a voicemail even if there are none (which has happened everytime EXCEPT when i listed to my dads message). somebody in the "EASY TUTORIAL: Jailbreak,..." thread said they heard of a fix for it on the hackintosh forums, i went there and searched briefly and didn't find anything, and i haven't seen anything here...
....anybody on here know how to fix it? it's not that big of a deal, just kinda cumbersome when i start up the phone. it's the only thing keeping the phone from being 100% perfect.
thanks in advance

It's not worth trying to remove that red dot on the phone icon. You can just leave a voicemail on your number and then get rid of it that way until you turn off your iphone again for some reason. I rarely switch off my iPhone since most of the time it's just in sleep mode and that doesn't affect the red dot.

well, it's not broken, so to speak.
when i turn the phone on, the red dot is there telling me i have voicemail.
when i call my voicemail, it tells me i have no new messages, i hang up. red dot will go away until i do have a voicemail.
it's not that i turn my phone off all the time, but a few programs do require a restart on the phone, and i turned it off to charge it to try out the "longer charge" claim that i've seen made around here...
like i said, it's an odd little quirk, that if i can rid of it easily, i'd like to. it's the only thing keeping the phone from being 100%

I have the same "problem" I don't think it has anything to do with somebody leaving you a message because nobody leftme a message and I still get the red dot

i used to have this problem with my new t-mobile line. i was using a nokia e65 then. when i bought my iphone i put my t-mobile sim card after successfully unlocking it. i received the new voice mail problem. after that no matter how many times i remove the sim card and pop it back in, power off and on i don't get the message anymore. when i tried to put back the sim to my nokia e65, the new vm notification is also gone. its really weird. but now im glad the problem is gone.

see, that's the thing, this isn't a new tmobile sim...i have had it for, coming up on, 4 years now....it's never been an issue in any of my other phones.
i dunno, i can live with it, but like i said, it's just kinda cumbersome if i have to turn the phone off, then back on, i dont know if i actually have a voicemail or if it's just the stupid red dot saying "hey, i'm stupid and i'm here for you to see even though nobody loves you and called while the phone was off, hahaha sucker" .... blah.

anybody find a solution yet?

there was one guy in another thread that said he saw something on hackint0sh...as i previously stated.
but alas, nothing has turned up.
i just want to throw this out there too...
i unlocked another phone today for a friend, and her's does the same thing with the voicemail notification, regardless if there is one there or not.
however, it could quite possibly be due to me using my sim to unlock it (she wasn't around when i got to that part) and i in fact, had a voicemail come in while i had the sim out. again.
go figure, i dont get an effin call all day long until i shut my phone off and take the sim out. i'm a believer that my friends are spying on me and are bored enough to eff with me like that.
but alas, with her sim, upon powering up, it says she has a voicemail even though she doesn't.

me too i had yesterday the red dot on the phone icon and voicemail.
i simply went to a rogers store to get an '' HSDPA SIM '' and transfer all my account into this new sim. after that no more red dot.
it seems that the iphone recognize 2.5 to 3g sims. remember the att aim that came with it? well, it has a 3g icon on the back.
(even if the iphone is not 3g)

I popped a TMobile SIM in my phone this afternoon and also had the VM message
I;ve heard the issue is related to how TMobile accesses Voicemail
I dont get the VM indicator with my Rogers SIM though.
I wonder if TMobile has any different types of SIMs?

has there been a fix to this yet?

SMS fix works on 1.1.1 or if you on Rogers, get new 4000 series sim card, that solved it for me

FIX: Get a New SIM!
I had the problem with TMobile, I had a old *** sim from 2003, probably an 8kb sim. Their new sims are 64k, I got one of those and no more red dot problem!!

I can verify that the fix is to get a new SIM.
I was using a T-Mobile SIM from 2004. Every time I rebooted my iPhone I would get the red dot indicating a new unread voicemail, even though there was no new voicemails.
Now I am using a relatively new T-Mobile SIM (2007) (left over from a Go-Phone that was not activated on prepaid). Voicemail Red dot problem went away

how much is it to get a new sim card

Depends on your carrier. Some are free if you ask nicely (AT&T will give you a few free if you explain you have an iPhone and need to set it up) but most charge $25
