There doesn't appear to be a section for Indian networks and since Vodafone is based in the UK I suppose the original poster felt this might be an appropriate place to post the information. Incidentally, it was reported that Vodafone had bought a majority stake in Hutchison Essar back in April so I'm not sure whether this is new information or not.

yup thats what happened. vodaphone decided to change the companies name to vodaphone from hutch since they thought it would be better marketing stratergy sine most ppl would spread that vodaphone is a reputed and international service providers..

by the way how good is vodaphone as a service provider in the UK??

They're a good network in my opinion although their data tariffs could be better. I haven't been with Voda for a year or more so I can't say what they are like now, but as far as I can remember they were a decent network. One thing that does annoy me about them is that they brand and lock their handsets, but then so do all the UK networks except O2 (although the iPhone will be locked).

Actually, Not all Vodafone released phones come branded and locked. I know that when they released the SE P990i it was unlocked, but maybe that was because it was a "business" contract.
