If Apple announced that where is the official Apple press release?

Not to mention there are already handfuls of threads discussing this "rumor" since it is just that at this point.

If Apple announces that before friday that it will for sure be out by Jan 08, I'll return my iPhone right now and wait, but I doubt they will. I also heard battery life wont be too great. I'm pretty content with my iPhone, I don't necessarily use it for GPS or fast internet.

Making such an announcement now will cripple their Christmass sales. Who will buy a Gen 1 phone pre January?

I sincerely doubt the iPhone marketing team would make such a gaff as to torpedo their year end run for the sake of promoting wjat will amount to a sure seller due in January.

this announcement wouldnt be made until the macworld event - after the holiday season

i wouldnt be surprised, however, if we DID hear about a phone like this come january...

Neither would I. (And yes, I'll be out there on line again to get it. Gratz Hubby on your new 8GB Gen 1 iPhone!!) But it won't be announced until it's available - like the Touch and new format iPods were.

Announcing a new release too soon almost always kills sales of the current product. At this time of year that's marketing suicide in the extreme

When has Apple ever released an updated product that quickly?

I hope something is out sooner, since my contract with VZW expires on Jan 3rd, I'd like to jump to a new iPhone on or before that date.

If I can't, I might get a cheap phone from AT&T to hold me over until the something comes out.

Unless Apple has an unbelievable upgrade price, I don't see how 3G and GPS would be worth buying a brand new phone. Especially considering how little you would be able to sell your used V1 phone for.

and my usual response to threads like this... Bollocks.
