ringtone, wallpapers help!!

okay well i got my unlock iphone a couple of days ago and my friend told me you can't upgrade it because the unlock will be lost, he told me that if i wanted to put ringtones, wallpapers o apps you had to have ibrick but he said it was only for Pc's like windows running but i have a mac what can i do??
