iFuntastic vs. AppTap (Installer.app)

I may be oversimplifying this but... correct me if I'm wrong.

Definitions:
unlocking - allowing your phone to work on another carrier
jailbreaking (or unshackling) - allowing 3rd party apps to be installed and modifications to your phone.

Now, for someone who just wants to jailbreak their phone, not interested in unlocking it, your options really come down to:
iFuntastic vs. AppTap.

From what I've been reading they each have their own ways to go about things.
iFuntastic is an application that "unshackles" your phone and allows you to make customizations to it, add ringtones and install applications.
AppTap "jailbreaks" your phone and then acts sort of like apt-get for your iPhone allowing you to access an application repository and easily browse and install applications on the fly. Among these are apps to customize your iPhone, add ringtones, etc.

So I would only need one or the other?
What's everyone's preference?
Are there any known problems with using both?

thanks,

just get the Nullriver AppTapp, it will do everything you could possibly need, with more functionality every day. The things you can't install with it now are sure to be available on it soon, but that list is small anyhow.

Ok. So there's nothing "special" that iFuntastic does above and beyond AppTap?

That's what I thought. With all things being equal, I'd prefer the apt-get-like functionality of AppTap anyway. Then just install Springboard/rSBT/Customize to skin the phone, SendSong for ringtones and so on with all sorts of other apps. Very cool.

It is very cool, it is incredible to me how easy it is to install third party stuff, just one click and you can install and uninstall 100 different applications, even over edge.

Where are you seeing 100 applications?

You have to install the community sources to get to all of the other packages.

I used iFuntastic initially. If I'm not mistaken the unshackle routine is little more than a different name for the same routine.

One feature iFuntastic has that AppTapp and installer doesnt id the multipage home screen.

That said, thats about all it does have over AppTapp, and when I used it on my phone with other apps I ended up having to restore and install AppTapp anyway since the pages froze the phone

Go with Apptapp - you wont be sorry. It expands your phones capabilities immeasurably

Install Community Sources and restart the phone. Your app list will quadruple

So as an aside, I'm using Summerboard and apptapp, and my phone occasionally crashes. So you will probably still have some issues with summberboard. I occasionally just get a black homescreen.

I figure it's summerboard crashing. But there are no updates yet..

Yeah I had Summerboard, rSBT & Customize on my TO DO list. But not too many other apps. I want to enjoy the iPhone for a few days before completely altering the experience.

I figure I'll install AppTap, add SendSong (for my ringtones), ApolloIM and maybe iBlackjack before going away this weekend. Perhaps Navizon to test while I'm away, but that's it for a week or so.

Then start poking around more and more w/ the other apps and see what strikes me. I thought I read though (mixed response) that if you tend to have more issues with Summerboard if you overload it. Problem with it scrolling. ... maybe that was an earlier release??

All I know is that FedEx isn't here yet. Grrr

It should already be installed if you have Installer 3. Just go to downloads on bottom right and scroll through and it should be there already installed.
