Will there be a next generation 3125?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

The 3125 does all I need, but I would like to give my current phone to my wife and then get another one for myself.
Seeing that AT&T is dumping the 3125, should I order one before the inventory disappears or will there be a WM 6 version of the 3125 released in coming months?

Posted by: SHoTTa35

well maybe not from AT&T (not sure yet) but the HTC Erato/S420 i think is the upgrade for the 3125. Check it out:

Click the pic to get all the specs.

NOTE - It shows WM5 in that picture but it will be WM6 and HSPDA/UTMS and has a GPS chip built in. That plus even a FM Radio and air pump, knife to cut anyone trying to take that sweet *** phone away from you

(ok the last parts were joking )

Posted by: PointZero

Wow, it seems that more and more WM6 devices are being armed with a built-in GPS chip. Sweet!

I'd love to get this phone to replace my 3125. The only problem is that it was first shown back in early spring and it's yet to be released anywhere. I've pretty much given up ever seeing it. It seems like there's just not enough interest in a WM flip phone? All you can find any more are the PDA style phones.

Posted by: dlipetz

Add me to the list that wants a WM6 flip style phone. Looks like this form factor may be a dying breed...

Posted by: Xenoako

So I'm still in a quandry. If the WM6 flip is not coming, would I not do best to get another 3125 before they're all gone?

(Sorry for the delay, but I wasn't notified of replies.)

Posted by: SHoTTa35

i'm sure they'll be all over, actually i have one here that i'm not using

"1 million dollars - huuu ha ha ha ha"

The HTC S420 is everything I want! Why can't they hurry and release it

So you are convinced that it is simply a matter of time?

I am back from an international trip ready to purchase another 3125 since my wife's phone went dead, but could let her use my own MPX 220 if I had any hope for this new machine.

Posted by: shrocat

I suspect that this phone will not be imported anytime soon. Simply because a lawsuit by Broadcom against Qualcom for patent infringement is preventing the importation of cell phones with Qualcomm chips, which is what HTC uses. The only imports allowed are phones already approved by the FTC.
Thus the 8925 is allowed, but until this issue is cleared up we may not see too many HTC phones being imported into the U.S.

No I really have no idea. There isn't much info about this phone so right now I'm only dreaming. I can't find any other phone that I would want except this non-existant HTC S420.

Same here. The newly announced HP iPAQ Navigator 610 would probably be my second choice though it is not a flip style phone.

Posted by: Xenoako

Well, it appears my worst fears have been realized. I leave for an international trip and now that I urgently need a 3125, I cannot find it at a local store or on the AT&T web.

I don't know how to buy these things from Ebay and so on, I need the AT&T to do the original configuration and I can take it from there. But it looks like I waited a few days too long.

Am I missing a way to get the 3125 from AT&T?

Posted by: JETninja

Hmm, I see it right now on Premier. One of my Teens is interested in it, he also found it last night on the reg ATT website.....

Thanks a lot. I did not correctly search the site or login. Blame it on jet lag since I am just back from Switzerland.

Anyway, put in my order and the little beast should be here next week. Sure wanted a flip HTC WM6, but the experts here tell me my next 3125 will be worn out by then.

the release date is set for december 07, my 3125 charger port is broken and I want to upgrade my phone

Since I've already placed an order and will now need to return it before using it would you mind taking a moment to point me to a public source that confirms this?

I certainly do not want to get another 3125 right now if the replacement is coming that soon. Also, will the new model use the same cables? Will I be able to use my MS VC or is there another edition coming?

I very much appreciate your reply.

If you click on the phone you will go to a spec site and on the site it has a release date of 12/07. Alll other sites had the release date of April 2007

You're right, I missed the obvious. Now what am I doing to not see the HTC Erato/S420?

Well, the 3125 has arrived and I don't know what to do. Would someone help me decide whether to go with another 3125 or keep hope alive that the HTC Erato/S420 will come out this year? If not, then I would guess that all the new 3125s will be gone by the end of the year.

There hasn't been anything on the Erato/S420 since MUCH earlier this year, some rumors had it as 'dead' on the drawing board w/ HTC. If it does come out, you'll start hearing rumors again. But at this point, even it it does, my thought would be that you won't see until well into '08 sometime. It's also likely that it could be 'import only' and that no US carriers would pick it up, making it pretty expensive.

Just my 2 cents, but for the price of a 3125 right now, you could buy it and flush it later if the Erato does show up. The only issue would be contract renewal, you'd be locked back into an agreement possibly.

This little search I did this morning move in your direction. I'm just trying to make sense of the post of antlive - who is known for helping out - above that put Dec 7 as the release date.

I had to purchase a new 3125 cause my usb port is broken off of ebay ($142).. I was thinking about waiting to see if the dec date was going to be it, but I couldn't. Hopefully it will come out at the end of the year and I will buy it next yr. LMAO

antlive might be right, dunno, not sure where that info is coming from (Dec 7)...if that date is rumored out there, it could be correct but we have no way of really knowing if it is.

has the FCC approved anything remotely like this device...i don't recall seeing anything about it in the past year on FCC approval...if it hasn't, I'd say Dec 7 would be hard to hit.

The 3125 had some early rumor dates that slipped and slipped b/c of problems that plagued the phone early on as the Qtek 8500.

I think until you see some beta testors out there posting that they have an ATT 4125 (I'm guessing on the name there, who knows what ATT will call it) in their hands, then you aren't going to see one on Dec 7th.

Again, not saying Dec 7th is not possible, just not likely given the info that's out there to date on this phone.

Despite all the evidence to the contrary, is there any reason to pay attention to the Dec date endorsed by http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdamas...ype=HTC+Artemis

I don't know this web, but during my search it was the only one that used Dec rather than April, July, Sept 2007.

That's a newer date than what used to be posted on pdadb.net. I check their site pretty regularly, and the Erato used to be listed w/ earlier dates, the July and Fall (Oct/Nov) dates too I think...so maybe they know something, but maybe not, they could just be pushing their dates out periodically just like everybody else...

My real thought is that we'll eventually see another WM flip, from somebody, somewhere...but whether or not it'll be the Erato or anything similar from HTC is just a shot in the dark at this point.

Long shot here, but assuming that you ordered it from AT&T, I am curious, was it AT&T branded or are they just leaving the Cingular branding and letting it sell out of current stock?

I recently went to a 3125 as a back-up from my Blackjack and absent 3G, love the phone. I am now in the same boat as you, wanting an updated WM flip phone.

Anyway, just curious about the branding.

Thanks!

I wish I could help, but I am leaving the box unopened during the 30 days. I keep hoping against hope that some formal announcement will be made about the phone I want then I will know whether to: keep the 3125 for myself, buy it for my wife, or simply return it. Not opening the box proves that if I take it to a store for a return that I have absolutely in no way done anything to the phone.

Posted by: Vapor03

Thanks for the quick reply. Guess I might just have to order one to find out

Well, one way or another the box will have to be opened in one to 2 weeks but I am just undecided about what course to follow at this point.

Okay, I opened the box and the 3125 is brand Cingular.

On the matter of the next HTC, the local AT&T speculated that nothing would come their way for three months.

Posted by: Vapor03

Thanks for the update Xenoako! I kind of figured that it would be Cingular branded, was trying to be optimistic. Think I might hang tight and see what future WM devices come our way.

Any update on the erato/s420?

I ran across one web trying to sell an unlocked version for $800.

I am getting a little more desperate. My Cingular 3125 is slowly starting to die on me. If no erato/s420 then what Cingular smartphone will work with ActSyn? I don't want a pda or tilt phone or i-phone, etc.

Well, what about the HTC Touch Pro? Is Cingular bringing this out?
