let's just say i stepped away from my desk to grab a drink, and i missed a call. since the screen doesn't light up or beep, how do i know if i have missed info WITHOUT having to check on my iphone every 2 mins?

Press the Menu button to check status. Any new alerts will prompt you on the screen. You need to get out more often instead of worrying about missed calls, SMS, etc.

you wont know until you touch your phone.

so basically, i do have to press the menu button...which means i gotta constantly touch my screen. o well.

my bb had an indicator and it would blink red when i missed a call/ got a text/email. etc.

Do you leave it plugged in/docked? If so (eliminating concerns about battery life), go to Settings -> General -> AutoLock and try setting it to never. That should leave the screen on and allow you to see any activity without constantly turning the screen back on.

BTW: You should only have to touch the Home button at the bottom of the device or the lock button at the top to turn your screen on, since you were concerned about having to constantly touch the screen. Not sure if that is just semantics or not.

An extra LED stuck on the iPhone would ruin the aesthetics of the device.

Form Over Function - Apple's new trademark. Or not so new.
