Ok so the iphone doesnt have mms fine it supports email. someone sent me a bunch of pictures to my aol account and gmail account which i check from my iphone from my friends iphone who sends on her gmail. its been about 5 hours still nothing. checked spam folders and everything. its just silly. is this an email service issue? a t-mobile issue?

Are you both 100% sure they've been sent? I've had issues before sending photos to Flickr via GMail (essentially the same process you doing). Ask your friend to resend.
Also, for some reason "Recent Mode" has given me angst in timely receipt of email from GMail as well. If you turned that on under Advanced Settings, be sure to turn it off.
