Samsung Blackjack 2 (i780)?

I made a thread over at the PPC forum, check it out. Specs look great, and its supposed to be a WM6 PROFESSIONAL device (complete with FLUSH touchscreen). I know that it doesn't have the right frequencies for the US, but that's not to say that a US version isn't in the works...

...any word on whether or not there is?

i rmember when the bj came out originally in prototype, there were no cingular specs but all of a sudden a cingular speced version came out. the bj was pretty successful for cingular. i think we will probably see another bj soon.

I have no idea, but I'm thinking it's a possibility...

I bet you it comes out before the q9

lol.. this again, it's been posted so many times. It does look like the blackjack but i'm not sure they'd switch to Professional over smartphone. Professional is nice but i rather smartphone since i want a phone first, pda second. I said it before (few times) and while i have no facts to backup my speculation (umm?) but i definitely wouldn't think that's the BJ2.

Actually your right. It's not the next blackjack. But this is. I recently went to a developers conference in Orlando. And at the Samsung booth saw their road map for Q4 07. Under the USA road map there was a model labeled SGH-i647 and it looked exactly like this phone here. But with the US HSDPA bands of 850/1900. Last time I checked the only carrier in the US with those bands was AT&T.

Nope, they aren't the only ones. Edge Wireless, an AT&T Affiliate providing service in NorCal (including here in Mendocno County where I live), SouOre, SE ID and W WY, is putting up UMTS and HSDPA on the 1900 band. Edge is a 100% 1900 carrier, currently running GSM/GPRS/EDGE and soon the 3G I mentioned.

eeeh.. i'm not convinced that's the new blackjack either. I could be wrong there too but i just don't see that being the update.

Eitherway, both phones listed does seem like sweet phones but i'm guessing the i647 would be the naming convention or something but we'll see.

Are you serious. The thing looks identical to the current i607 (except bigger screen). Every aspect of the internals are upgraded.
WM Standard to WM Pro
Non-Touchscreen to Touchscreen
Crappy BT Stack to Not-So-Crappy BT Stack
Faster CPU
More memory
Optical mouse
Bigger screen

Come on. This is every Blackjack owners dream.

This compared to the current "speculated" i640 SLIDER phone... this phone is a closer physical match then the ladder slider phone.

The i640 is like a blackjack in slider form with minor updates.

If you had to get a new phone and decide between the i640 or the i780... the i780 would be the most bang for your buck.... especially if you really like the form-factor of the current blackjack.

Well you may consider it an "upgrade" but some people make it a choice to have some features when compared to others.

WM Standard vs Pro - while that's great for some people i rather Standard. There are phones out there that are PDAs with phone features and that's what Pro is but not everyone wants that. So standard to pro isn't an "upgrade" to me as i could have had that option with other phones if i chose that. I chose WM Standard instead.

Touch vs Non-Touch, once again.. just like the above.

Crappy BT Stack vs Not So Crappy - hehe... well what doesn't it do? I used it with my PC, my headset, it seems that it can print. What more am i missing? I'm not 100% sure about A2DP but i'm sure that's there because of the latest update added it.

Faster CPU - eehh.... the blackjack as it is now is probably one of the fastest. The others use a 195Mhz CPU while the BJ has a 220Mhz one.

More memory - well i can't argue with that.

Optical mouse, - umm.. that's a extra feature that i'd think is probably just a novelty. The iPAQ 4700 had one too and i doubt it started any major buzz. If it did we'd see it on all our phones now, WM or not. Anyone knows you get much faster response and use with actual buttons to press vs precise movement and selection.

Bigger screen - well can't argue there either.

A BJ2 for me would probably be, well i can't even think of any 1 thing that i just gotta have. GPS and Wifi would be nice but i don't think i'd use it all that much. If/when i cared if i have wifi or not i'd probably rather whipping out the laptop (i'd bring it in such situations) 3G is good in others. GPS - yeah that'll definitely be handy but don't see myself using it more than maybe once in a while. Maybe once a week or just to show off to people? Even with tha Kaiser launching, i'm thinking if i could have all it's features in this phone would that make it a better phone and i'm like nope.

The i780 is not a production model yet. The one I seen on display was not a production model, but a engineering model or prototype. I was told as much. The i640 is a production model and will be produced for Vodaphone. The product map I saw for the usa had a Black model labeled as i647 with the 850/1900 HSDPA bands. I don't know what they will call the model when it is released though. I highly doubt the i780 will be in production anytime soon.

Wirelessly posted (Blackjack: SAMSUNG-SGH-I607/I607FG1 Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; Smartphone; 320x240) UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0)

Methinks it will be a variant of the i780. WM6 Standard. More memory and even faster processor.

BT stack definitely needs to improve since Sammy's are always quirky with BT.
