1: your phone has a microUSB port. you'll need to buy a USB > MicroUSB cable check www.store.motorola.com for the MicroUSB + Motorola Phone Tools package

2: according to motorola's razr2 site, your V9m has around 128MB on board memory, out of which the end user gets to use around 60-80MB, so yeah you'll be able to put some music on it (key word being "some" here lol) and yes you'll be able to assign it as a ringtone

hey there... the V9M uses the new Micro USB standard connector...
you can use any mini usb cable(like an mini usb cable from an mp3 player..thats what i use lol) if you have motorola's mini to micro usb adapter, or you can by the micro cable from sprint.com(i haven't checked anywhere else)
now, as far as music without an SD card, you can do it, but there isn't much internal memory(a microsd card comes with the one from sprint)..
as far as mp3's as ringtones, here are the instructions for the way i did it(without having to SMS the file to yourself)
Quote:
after poking around in MPT some more i figured something out, you can transfer MP3's to the phone and have them be ring tones, you just can't use the ring tone making part of the program lol.
I was able to transfer an MP3 to the phone via bluetooth and via USB cable, using MPT(I have the latest version which automatically found my phone). What you do is once in MPT, click on "Multimedia Studio" this brings up a bigger window, in that window click on "File transfer studio." In that you will have two main columns, one labeled "my computer" and the other labled "mobile phone." In the one labeled "mobile phone" make sure you are at the top of the file structure (can't click the up button any more). Once there click on the "audio" folder. If you chose the right one you'll see some more folders listed, like stp and voicerecords, etc... don't click any further. In the other column you'll see three tabs, select the "My pc" tab, and navigate to where the mp3 is you want to transfer. Once you find it just click the button in the middle of the colums with the arrow pointing to the phone, and it should copy it.. once done close out of MPT, and disconnect your phone from the usb cable, and you'll see your mp3 is listed as being assignable.
The same directions go for bluetooth as well, just make sure you close out of MPT, it does some post proccessing when closing.
ALso, i noticed that the picture MPT shows for the phone is wrong, don't be alarmed lol..

In case you don't know, MPT is motorola's Mobile phone tools available on motorola.com, or your choice of torrent sites lol.
anyway, let me know if you have trouble!

you can't just assign the music as a ringtone... you have to follow the steps i posted above... i put some mp3 files on my v9m's internal memory to test this, and the phone will not allow mp3's to be assigned as ringtones, again, unless you do the steps I outlined above... the v8 might allow it, but the Sprint V9M doesn't, and I assume Verizon's is even more locked down....
on a side note, have you been able to get opera mini 4 beta 2 to work on the v8?

got opera 8.5 as the default browser for the v8, so pretty happy with it, no need to try out opera mini, IMHO

and V9m doesnt have the whole "USB Settings - Storage Device" option? where it'll just show up as a removable disk and you can dump mp3's into the "Music" folder?
MPT was always a nuisance since my v3/v3i days.

the V9M does have that option, but, the phone will not allow them to be assignable... i think the carriers did this, but i found a back door lol..
ah, the v9m(sprint's version) only runs j2me applications, i have to use opera mini..
oh, wait, the v8 is the razr2 that has the variant of linux running..i forgot.. the v9m has motorola's old UI, mixed with carrier specific stuff...like verizon has brew(ugh), and sprint has java..

Hey thanks for the replies, they were all helpful. well now i have to wait until i get a micro usb cable, i dont want to get it at the verizon store because its like 35 because it comes with some other stuff, does anyone know a place where they know carries them, like circuit city, radio shack, frys or something like that?

ohh, one more thing, does anyone know if you can get mp3's emaild to your phone, like in pcp format. i tried one website, i forgot what it was called and it didnt work.

Posted by: mearsfan25

i know sprint.com has them...and i don't think you have to be a customer...
the cable is only $19.99 there...
as far as texting mp3's to ur phone, I use www.rumkin.com and it works perfect..i don't know anything about pcp.

if you already have a mini usb cable, you can pick up one of these adapters:

http://www.store.motorola.com/mot/e...wAddButton=true

http://www.store.motorola.com/mot/e...wAddButton=true

the last one is out of stock, but ebay has lots of them OEM. Motorola confirmed that this adapter will allow you to sync with a computer and charge your phone as well.

Hi

What revision of MPT? I have 4.5.6a and it shows a V9M if I setup manually but it can't auto-detect the phone or connect after I set the phone type (manually) Prior to upgrading I did a manul setup as a v3m-sprint and it found the phone, I moved a few files but it eventually lost the connection.

Thanks

Ron

Just updated to 4.5.6 and can no longer access multimedia studio. Reinstalled drivers 2.9.0 downloaded from MotoDev and still cannot acesss it.
Went into Setup > General Setup > Communication > Modem Settings / Change Modem. I no longer see MotoRazrV9m under CDMA. The only driver choices available for the phone areV9m, V9mm & V9mS.
Anyone else having this problem? Anyone find a solution?

Update...Removed all MotoDev drivers and reinstalled them. After reboot V9mm driver gives me access to media studio and fiie transfer. I don't have a microSD card yet but would like to transfer a few mp3's to the phone. Converted them too .wma but when I try to send them to the music folder I get an (unsupported media type) error. grrrrr lol

does it have to be in wma to be synced onto the phone?
because everytime i try to sync the playlist i want on my phone..it wont allow it..
some of the formats are mp3 and others are wma..and neither work

it puts one song on ..and the rest are errors
anyone know what im doing wrong?

this is what ive been doing..

i plug it into the computer..i go to the sync music thing on my phone..while the microsd card is in and then i go in windows media player 10..
i pick the songs i want (in wmp10)..and i press sync now
the first song copies to the phone..and then the second song stop at 100% copied..and then turns into an error..along with every song after it
the error says:

Error: The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request

any ideas?
