new phone and SMS space

I'm currently looking for a new phone, and an important thing that I would like with my phone is the ability to hold a high amount of text messages. I'm wondering if there is a good cell phone that can hold a high amount of text messages without having to do any editing or anything, or what the best method of getting a phone to be able to hold a large amount is, ie if the best method is to buy a memory card etc. I would like it to be an ATT or Verizon phone, preferably. Thanks for any assisistance.
