Check firmware revision out of the box

Now that new phones are on their way you may want to check the firmware before trying to restore to 1.02 . As the restore is the first step of most unlock procedures you may want to start with this step.

You can check what firmware is preinstalled by going to the emergency call, entering *3001#12345#* then pressing "Call". Under Versions you will find what revision firmware is on the phone out of the box.

03.12.06_G Is firmware 1.0.0
03.14.08_G Is firmware 1.0.1 and 1.02
04.01.13_G Is 1.1.1

As You cannot downgrade firmware, you sofar will not be able to restore 1.02 if you have the new 1.1.1 firmware. Trying to do so may damage the firmware and render the phone unusable as a phone even on att untill a solution is found.

If you are lucky and still have the old firmware.

That is a great tip. Too bad you can't check it at the store before you purchase it. They would flip out if you go and open the box and type in the code infront of them.

Here is a post lifted from Hackint0sh:

UPDATE do not buy from 5th ave or SoHo if you want old firmware. I cant believe they have these out allready.

5th Ave has 7u**** serial so I assume its the new firmware.

SoHo serial is 7R***** figured I was ok. Opened it and did field test for firmware. It said 04.01.13_G and based on another forum, this is the new firmware. I will lose 10% by returning this but better than bricking it.

This blows. Thread carefully my friends. 7R was supposed to be fine and I got one with the update.

how about 7V****** ??

I have the 7S which I bought last week and has 1.0.2

I actually have one with a serial that starts with "YM". It came with 1.01 loaded on it.

My refurb got here yesterday (Just in time for me to brick my original :P ) It's an odd serial - 327******** - but has 1.0.2

It'd not supposed to me mine though so I'm not going to be modding it

Just curious - what's the return policy on refurbs? I toyed with the idea of returning it (before mine bricked) but was given the "This is not eligible to be returned inthe the Refund and Exchange agreements" messages. 14 day buyers remorse doesn't apply to refurbs?

how can you tell if you have 1.01 vs 1.02 and does it matter?

Posted by: duceduc

entfla:

read the first post. Yes, i does matter which version you have. Hope is not 1.1.1

I am planning to buy one tomorrow and if it turns out to be the newer firmware, I am going to kick myself real hard for being lazy to buy last weekend. I am counting on Amex return protection to get the 10% restocking fees refunded, in case I have to return for that reason.

I am wondering if the refurb iphones comes with the shrink wrap box off. If so, you can check the firmware by doing the code in the first post.

This certainly helped to unlock yet another iPhone by checking its firmware! Thanks champ!

My guess is that apple will not sell refurbs without flashing them with the new firmware, and besides someone earlier reported that their online store was out of refurb iphones, so very likely that all the new phones that start coming in are with the new firmware (flashing must be part of their re-manufacturing process anyway).

hopefully i wont have 1.1.1 firmware.

thanks.

Finally bought one today and it has 1.0.0 firmware. The serial number starts with 7S.
