Hello have a link to my site.

A-I-O L7c modding guide
(A compilation of threads posted by cnewman, jeffholley, nevardeath, LFM and VillageIdiot)

I do not take full credit for all of this information, I compiled all of this information in a step-by-step guide to make future modders work less to find there information wanted. This goes to show with all of us working together sharing information in a community we can accomplish alot. Thank you to all posters who helped share the info on the L7c!

Everyone always has a million questions about the L7C, let me try to clarify some info....

The L7C is a CDMA phone. CDMA limits some of the modding you can do on your phone. Code Division Multiple Access is what CDMA stands for. It is some of the new technology in North America. All communications are sent in groups of bits mixed together. Some of you have seen how to edit or mod a "L7". This is not a CDMA phone these are GSM's. Following tutorials or using the drivers or settings for these phones could brick your phone. You have been warned, lol.

Okay first I want to address connecting. Connecting can be a frustrating ordeal believe me.

**Warning**: If you are connecting for the first time and have Motorola Phone Tools (MPT) installed now would be the time to go uninstall that. I'll wait here...

Ok, now that thats accomplished youll need the following softwares. For refrence I will comment behind each title. No links to warez will be posted here. Google is an amazing thing, (not like it used to be though grrr... @ the antics) so google these titles you should find them with ease.

Add-in: I want to add-in that I personally am using Vista. I will try to cover both processes in this guide. Some have claimed to get p2kcommander to read & write from Vista. I haven't accomplished this yet, for the simple fact all releases of RSD lite are not Vista compatible.

Lets get started

Create a folder. Place it where you see fit. We are going to start downloading some programs do this all with. By the time your done you should be connected, be able to edit your phone's GUI (skin it), delete stuff, and finally mod some startup/shutdown animations.
Software you will need:

* -Motorola Driver installer [I have v2.9] / This will uninstall all drivers that may be holding you back for sure. This comes in handy if you previously had MPT on your PC.
* -The L7C drivers upped by member: jeffholley (thank you) http://www.live- share.com/files/160388/l7c_p2k_drivers.zip.html
* -Motorola UID Extraction Tool / Can be found in the downloads section of this site.
* -P2K Commander / Can be found in the downloads section of this site. [hes working on getting vista compatible)
* -RSD Lite / Google it.
* -PST / Can be found @ motodev
* -SkinMan / Can be found in the downloads section of this site.
* -Skinner4moto / Can be found in the downloads section of this site.

Anyone needing to access motodev, and not wanting to take an hour registering I have setup a public account...
acct: mod_my_moto@hotmail.com

(for times sake)

Again I would like to say that at this point in time if you are using Windows Vista you may not be able to delete any skins you put in your phone. This does not go to say that they cant be overwritten. (I just wish some programmers would get on top of Vista, but I can't complain I know how aggressive programming is c0s I know HOWTO no time dont ask** lol)

Connecting

Okay first I want to address connecting. Connecting can be a frustrating ordeal believe me.

**Warning**: Your phone must be unplugged when doing these installs.

**Warning**: If you are connecting for the first time and have Motorola Phone Tools (MPT) installed now would be the time to go uninstall that. I'll wait here...

1)Now what you want to do is run Motorola Drive Installer. This is going to install all 3 needed drivers for running these applications. When you open Motorola Driver Installer itll run some commands in a output field. Dont worry its just setting up itself. Now you will see a radio button labled "Clean" make sure this is checked and then press start.

2)Now Unzip the Motorola Drivers 2.9 into a folder such as c:\temp\motodriver2.9 and Unzip the New P2K Drivers into another one like c:\temp\newp2kdriver.

3)Next Install and run the Motorola UID Extraction Tool. You just have to open the program nothing else. It will say "No Device Connected" at the bottom.

4)Now plug your phone back in. It will pop up a found new hardware box, to which you do the customary "Install From Specific Location", and on the next window make sure it is ticked to "include this location in the search". Hit your browse button and point it to the folder with the Motorola Drivers 2.9 in it. At this point it should install the USB Motorola Modem. This is the part that took me a while to figure out. You need that one driver from the old driver pack.

5)Now When the next set of new hardware boxes appear do the exact same thing, only this time point it to the folder containing the New P2K Drivers. It will want to install a few more things this way , just point them all to the New P2K Drivers.
Once all of that is done, and it may take a few minutes to get them all installed. The UID Extraction Tool should say "1 Device Connected" in the window (I think its the lower left) Now that your connected P2k Commander should recognize your phone. All you need to do to see the files on your phone is, open P2K Commander and select a\ in the right hand side of the program. Then select the Re-Read button. In the lower left hand box you will see an output of what the commander is doing. It will now list your DIR in the right hand side. That sould let you edit (Read and Write) to your phone.

Skinning

Now that your connected and have the driver installed, lets move onto skins, creating skins is fun. I have had a blast working with skinning. You can edit any graphical interface of your skin, from the icons to the buttons. Skinning is done with Skinner4moto. In order to skin with the correct program you will need the correct .s4mi file to set this program to work otherwise it may compile the skins incorrectly.

For the L7C we use the E815.s4mi you can find it here http://skinner4moto.de.vu/ .Once you get skinner4moto ready to go, grab a skin and open it with skinner4moto.

Now that that is open go look in the folder your skin is located in.... See that new gif folder? Guess what, mod away my friend. Once your done modding just hit save inside skinner4moto.

If you dont have a editor I suggest a free open source editor that may take some time for you to get used to if your familiar with Adobe photoshop. www.gimp.org Animated skins are not that difficult. Let me spell out how I do it.

I go to ************ and get screensavers that are free.

Once I have th animated gif I edit it but let me go into detail about this....

1) First, if you have a skin your editing that has animations in it, look in the gif file and locate the number of file it is.

2) go to http://gallery.************/c/screensavers/1/ and get a animation.

3) Now the animation on L7C's needs to be about 176 * 120 so go to http://www.smileygenerator.us/t/gifresize/index.php or if you have a favorite online .gif editor, WHATEVER somehow resize the thing. lol.

4) Now replace it into the gif folder containing the animation.

For animation skin editing I work from the Mushroomhead skin inside the skins downloads section. If you want to make a skin from scratch refer to where I got this info from... http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10488 scroll to bottom for english.

!!!A BIG THANK YOU TO LFM!! (he was the one who originated this idea.) Great work man impressive.

About as impressive as writing over voice recording with bitpim on the LG AX275 with bitpim, then setting it as a ringtone but that is a whole diffrent tutorial there.... Skins also can be found in the downloads section.
Applying skins with no p2kcommander

Are you like me...? Got vista running and the damn p2k commander wont compromise with you. Well grab skinman if you havent and it will stick them on there for you. This is another download availible in the Downloads Section. The way you apply skins if you CAN NOT get p2kcommander to work is with SkinMan.

Sidenote: I did not add many links instead I hand you one link. Here is my External page and my AIO L7C modding pack links.

This tutorial ill keep going along with my website in my sig, until I get a new phone. Which could be awhile, idk.

GLHF all.

UPDATE!!!!!! P2K Commander works with this phone now. Install .mp3 into a/motorola/shared/music then delete MYtoneDB.db and reset phone. All .mp3's will show inside ring detail now to set ringers.

Side Note: I have this all working side by side with MPT newest version (first for me and the commander) I am using newest USB driver and newest Moto driver installer.

Ran Motorola Driver Installer 2.9, clicked "Clean Only" then Start

Extracted the files from l7c_p2k_drivers into C:\TEMP\P2K Drivers 2.9 and C:\TEMP\newP2K Drivers 2.9.

Installed and ran the UID Extraction Tool (v2.0), and it said No Device Connected.

Plugged my phone in and the Found New Hardware box popped up, then clicked "Locate and install driver software (recommended)." Then, down in the systray an icon appeared that said "Installing device driver software."

Then a new Found New Hardware box popped up and clicked "I don't have the disc. Show me other options." Then clicked "Browse for driver software on your computer." Browsed and selected C:\TEMP\P2K Drivers 2.9 and clicked next. The software was successfully installed.

Then, another Found New Hardware box appeared with the "I don't have the disc" option, so I did the same as before but instead selected C:\TEMP\newP2K Drivers 2.9. This software was successfully installed as well.

The systray icon then said "Your devices are ready to use" and its list consisted of: Motorola USB Modem, USB Composite Device, Test Command Interface, Data Logging MCU Interface, and Accessories Interface.

The UID Extraction Tool then changed to say "1 device(s) connected."

I then extracted the P2kCommander-V4.9.2 zip file to Documents and opened the P2kCommander application. A box then popped up saying P2kCommander.exe has stopped working. The problem details are: Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: P2kCommander.exe
Application Version: 0.0.0.0
Application Timestamp: 45d35789
Fault Module Name: OLEAUT32.dll
Fault Module Version: 6.0.6001.18000
Fault Module Timestamp: 4791a74f
Exception Code: c0000005
Exception Offset: 00022c83
OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.768.3
Locale ID: 1033
Additional Information 1: 2cdf
Additional Information 2: a80371ac2f0120aa183d0c022766c982
Additional Information 3: c3c1

I instead tried P2kAutostart, which worked and added an icon to the systray that said in the log, "Service ready, Thread Task Starts..., USB: IO Time-out!, Phone switched to P2k mode., USB: IO Time-out!, switched to P2k mode." I then tried P2kCommander again but the same error as before occurred.

I tried right-clicking the systray icon and clicked Run P2kCommander, but all it did was put "P2kCommander started" in the log window.

Did I not install the drivers correctly? Or is it the version of P2kCommander (4.9.2)? If I open skinner4moto (with E815) and click install to send a skin to my phone, it pops up with a message that says, "You need s5vi's P2KCommander 3.2.2 or later to install the skins! Get it from http://s5vi.vxxxstuff.com" I know how to put music on my phone, but I want to make a new skin.
I'm completely new to this whole phone modding thing so I have no idea what to do... My OS is Windows Vista Home Premium and I know for sure that my phone is an L7c. Thanks a bunch!
