Do I understand correctly that SDIO wifi cards will not work in the Treo 680 under any circumstances?

TIA.

Thank you. Palm sure seems to go all-out to sabotage itself sometimes.

In order for the Wi-Fi card to work, you need to have the software or driver to enable it to work. Think of the driver as an interpretor or translator so that the card will understand the Treo and vice versa. Without the driver, nothing will work.

Unless someone really has the time to reverse engineer the card similar to what Shadowmite did for the 650, it won't happen. Palm isn't creating a driver and I consider this very dead.

Wi-Fi will only work with the Enfora Wi-Fi sled, and yes, it will work on the 680. You will need the sled plus the drivers. I have tried it and it works.

its unfortunate how big that sled is... and that a wifi card won't work with the Treo 680... a wifi/ memory SD card would be very nice in a Treo. even if its 802.11b only.

My next phone will have WIFI, its a must for use around the house... especially if it will work along-side T-Mobile's HotSpot@Home service!

True, it does add quite a bit of bulk to the entire package but since it's the only solution, I'm okay with it. But agreed that my next upgrade must have Wi-Fi capability, even if only via an expansion card. So right now, it's either a Treo 750 or an HTC. I may not be able to shell out the bucks for an Advantage or Shift.

I love the Treo 750 personally and was playing with a WM5 version the other day, found it much easier to use thanks to the Palm enhancements... Palm brought some of their OS to WM basically.

Apparently Rogers Wireless in Canada will have WM6 so it will be cool if I get my hands on that.

Yes, I agree that it's nice that the Win Mobile Treo has a lot of the Palm Treo enhancements and likely why I may get the 750 rather than an HTC.
