Is everyone else's 1.1.1 firmware buggy?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I didn't have many problems in the previous update but after loading this update I've had my phone crash about 4 times since the update.

Sometimes when I ulnlock my phone I get a "blank white screen" for about 3-5 seconds before it loads the home screen. This has never happened in any previous versions.

Posted by: rablat

Only bug i have seen so far is the
email bug.

Posted by: turbo-sc

Have you cycled the phone after the update, not just after it crashes, but just as a precautionary...

I haven't had any problems with 1.1.1 expect not being able to use my homemade ringtones. no biggy.

I have noticed since the update my battery life has gone down dramatically. While working I always leave the site pickleview.com running so me and others can view game updates. My phone once that was over with would have 35-40% of life left. After the 1.1.1 update The phone dies before the game even ends.

This is one of the first issues i have had with my phone. Any ideas on this one?

Odd.. I've had none of these strange bugs everyone is talking of on mine.. maybe I'm just lucky. Additionally, my battery life seems to be lasting longer than it did, and my speaker phone is much louder. Could it be different hardware versions?

Posted by: Arden

i've had a few bugs also that never occured before... on saturday i wasnt able to listen to voicemail, i would click on the message and it would just freeze it wouldnt play, i tried scrolling the through it but nothing happened the bar would move over but no message playing. also twice already i've tried touching and nothing, the phone froze on me and i had to do a soft reset.

Posted by: drmrw

Yes had some freezing and the white screen too. Reset seemed to fix it

Posted by: simbill

well Ive had the ipod crash, safari crash, and the voice mail issue I listed here: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1250715

Posted by: adizm_55

Mine was displaying the wrong time so I power-cycled. When it came back on, it showed a "20" above the phone icon. When I clicked it, all it was was my calls from the day before, which I had already taken/viewed. Weird. Then, the next time I synced, all my data turned to "other" in itunes and I had to do a restore before it would let me sync again.

Posted by: chaunce322

One issue I've had is with regard to SMS. When I open an SMS conversation, it takes a few seconds before the messages display. I've also had the iPod just randomly stop playing and return to the home screen. I never had either happen prior to the update...

I had something weird today. I was on a call, and it dropped after about a minute, and the screen said, "call failed". However, I was unable to get signal back, and had to restart the phone before I could receive or place calls.

Never had that happen before.

Posted by: MI_canuck

no issues - 1.1.1 working great for me

Posted by: mjbanks

I had my iPhone completely lock up after the firmware update in Safari. Had to hold the Lock and Home buttons to reboot it

Posted by: ZAT

Just as an FYI, how many of those having issues with the 1.1.1 update have modded their phones prior to the update?

Posted by: kinderco

no problems here....

Posted by: Arden

i had issues and my phone has never been updated, completely bone stock out of the box. not even ringtones.

Posted by: todd1010

mine has never been hacked by any means.

Posted by: Czar

After I updated, none of my music would play any more. It's still listed, but won't play. I tested by downloading from WiFi store, and those 2 songs worked. Sucked since I updated the night before I went on a trip.

Posted by: calvinpesh

ive had no problems at all after i did the update

Posted by: elite_is3

had many WHITE screen flashes, hickups etc

much worse than before.

Posted by: peechylyfe

crashes randomly.
speakers just turn off for no reason. (have to reboot phone to get it to work)
txts dont sent much more frequent than in the past (yes i have full bars)
speaker phone volume is actually worse on mine since i did the update...
everyday since i did the update i get more and more annoyed with my phone.

i love apple products and have used them for many many years, but i'm about ready to give up on this phone and wait for till next year to see if they can get it right. it's been over three months and we can't even copy/paste on this "smart-phone" :-(

I had a weird issue. A friend of mine told me that my phone sent her a text like 10 after i sent it originally only once. My battery seems to drain faster as well. I'm not sure if it was due to the update, or is it just showing age. I don't know but after about a day of mild to heavy use the battery is gone.

Posted by: etickt

I've seen a huge difference in battery life. From 2.5 days to less than a full day. I didn't even use it much yesterday, and it drained from 100% to 10% in about 18 hours.

I'm going on over 24 hours... only 1/4 drained... 4 hours of use.

I've had problems with the iPod crashing in the background when browsing in Safari. I had this problem in the original firmware too, it used to happen about once a day and I had to do a restart to clear out the RAM. With 1.02 the problem almost completely went away, but now with 1.1.1 it's back to a once a day thing. My phone was unhacked.

Posted by: SVTVagabond

There is a delay in pulling up the home screen now with the newest firmware. Or sometimes it will get stuck on the now playing screen even if i didn't have any music playing.

Posted by: BethanyBoo

I've had a lot of crashes and mine has never been modded. Restarting my iPhone didn't help.

Posted by: pwndbyDeathStar

Never modded iPhone and the RF is much worse on 1.1.1 than previously. Lots more dropped calls, getting lots of holes of no service where there was previously a decent signal lock. Seeing this with more than one 1.1.1 handset. And..ehhh... a modded iPhone does much better in the same areas compared to the 1.1.1 phones.

Still lots of Safari stability issues as well.

Posted by: mcdj

I'm seeing more dropped calls and dead pockets too, even with full bars.

The play icon shows up in the status bar when nothing's playing. Has happened several times.

If a page is loading and I tap bookmarks, there's often a long delay before the bookmarks come up. Didn't used to be.

SMS is definitely slow to show a conversation upon loading, even a short conversation.

As the quirks and glitches mount, a downgrade to 1.02 is becoming more and more attractive.

Posted by: bootycancer

mine said I had no SIM for some reason. It took me almost the entire day to realize that I hadn't had a call in a long time. LOL. Actually my car radio(BT) told me something about reception. I first thought it was my radio(silly me). But I finally dug the phone out of my pocket, to see it read "No SIM"....rebooted it and all seems fine now.

BTW: I haven't touched the SIM since day one.

Posted by: ragnar

No mods, I have noticed the sms screen is slower to show message. Also, the Apple bluetooth earpiece battery meter is useless. When the red appears on the screen I actually still have 75% battery life left on the earpiece.

My phone has been nothing but trouble ever since I updated it to 1.1.1!

1.) Safari doesn't last for 5 minutes without crashing
2.) Play icon shows up on top even though I'm not playing anything on the iPod
3.) SMS takes a long time to display messages, frequently crashes as well
4.) iPod also crashes a lot
5.) Email and Maps too! Basically the only thing that hasn't crashed on me is the Phone application itself.

I haven't noticed any improvement or lesser performance in regards to battery life though, that's the only good thing I can say about 1.1.1 I'm desperate that Apple quickly issues another update that'll take care of this mess.

I was supposed to sell my old phone (a trusty Sidekick ID) as soon as I've gotten the iPhone, but with all the trouble that the iPhone has given me, I've decided to keep the Sidekick as a backup.

#1 Has been around from day one
#3 Mine has slowed down as far as displaying and sending. It's only crashed on me once or twice.
#5 is borderline a joke without any crashes

All others haven't been an issue and the Ipod is/has been very solid for me.

1.)haven't had much trouble with that except that when I "share" a link, the browser closes.
2.)This happens on mine quite often now.
3.)No crashes, but it does lag.
4.)iPod hasn't crashed (yet)
5.)Both have crashed on me as well. Twice in the past two days, it has dropped a call and froze with the caller's picture on the screen. I lost reception completely. Had to restart the phone to get it to pick up a signal. Very disturbing.

ya, I'm having all these problems too. Hoping for an update soon to fix them and especially the email not updating

Posted by: Dataquest

I, too have been having most of these annoyances since upgrading to 1.1.1 on my un-modded iphone. Another thing that I have noticed is everytime I email a photo from the camera roll, after it sends it, it immediately goes back to the home screen. Very annoying.---And right this moment, I have discovered another problem.. The sounds aren't working. My Sister sent me a text and it never made a sound. When I replied back to her, I noticed that the keypad "clicks" are now silent. I am trying to reset it by holding down the home key and the sleep/wake key and it brings up the "slide to power off" option. I think that it should just reset at that point, and not ask to power off, right? I will keep trying. This latest rev sucks.

Posted by: sspooner

Mine was modded (not unlocked - I happen to like AT&T). I went through the 1.1.1 prepare feature in iNdependence and then did the upgrade like it says. Mine is much more reliable than 1.0.2 now. Battery life seems the same, audio volume is much better and it doesn't lock up as much. All in all 1.1.1 is much better for me.

Posted by: peplovesu

ONce i updated to the new firmware i've been having these problems.

the date changes to june 11 2007 every once in a while i had to restart it to get it working again.

play icon comes up randomly

safari doesn't last that long before crashing

iphone heats up

ipod program locks up once in a while

lagging

i get double emails once in a while..

all these problems i've never had with the old firmware.. :-(

Upgraded from 1.0.2 w/ iUnlock hack to 1.1.1 with IPSF/Independance and its rock solid for me; my podcast videos now work where they didn't before, volume is better, and safari actually seems a touch faster.

I am not running any 3rd party apps -- just activated/unlocked on Rogers w/ 1.1.1

You're supposed to keep on holding the sleep and home buttons until the phone resets itself. I found that resetting the phone solved a lot of instability issues. 1.1.1 is actually stable now that I've reset the phone. Resetting the phone every few days might be a good idea just to keep that memory cache fresh.

my phone has been buggy lately too. its unlock and i just need some help with this guys i want to restore it. Do i just open itunes and restore through there, or do i have to put my phone into restore mode. if the phone was already unlock do i have to go through the whole activate and unlock process thanks

Posted by: genes83

It seems like that those who have unlocked/modded their iphones are in general better off when upgrading to 1.1.1 than their counterparts who haven't made any modifications to their phones... correct?

Would the original firmware have anything to do with it? (ie starting off with a 1.1.1 phone vs a 1.0.2 phone that's been upgraded to 1.1.1?)

so whats gonna happen if u do hard reset ?
