Well, I've decided to get this phone, and I have a few questions I would like to ask before shelling out 30$ for the "music essentials kit"
Does the phone use a standard USB cable? And do I really need the "usb drivers" or are they the same thing that you can d/l for free from here:
http://www.vzam.net/vcastmusic/Step2.aspx?maker=LG
thanks in advance

the phone uses an lg usb cable. the same cable will work for several phones, but it's still a phone specific cable. I'm using the drivers that were DLed from verizon's site with the music manager. work fine. I recomend NOT using the vcast sync software tho. converts EVERYTHING to wma format. Some people say the kit is a rip off. I got the one that's 50 bucks with the stereo headset, 2 gig card, and cd. was a little pricey, but convenient. figure 15 bucks for an ebay cable, 20 for a 2 gig card, that means you spend 15 on headphones. your call.

I'm wondering if i can just get the memory card and not the cable, and drag and drop stuff onto the card before sticking it in the phone. will the phone recognize the music files? thanks

I've just been using my MacBook's bluetooth to send files to my 8550. It seems to work just fine, but you can't use the music player with this. You have to manually play the song from "My Sounds". I haven't figured out a way to get these songs into the "My Music" folder yet. Let me know if anyone knows how to do this.

dragging and dropping to the card should work. make sure you format IN YOUR PHONE first. find the music folder, and stuff em in. it's been noted that ID3 version 1 tags are most consistent.

Assuming we are talking about just putting music on the phone to listen to it, then this wouldn't be needed (it'd just need to be MP3 or WMA).

uummm... I have mp3s in "my sounds" folder, on the phone, no problems... tho I haven't had half the problems with bitpim that everyone else is having, and I'm using 1.0.1 official... ???

I'm looking for a link to USB drivers for the LG VX8550 (Verizon). I've followed quite a few threads that include obscure references. So far, no luck. Can anyone just post a link to where they could be found.

Thanks!
BG
