Funny thing happened with INdependence

I had screwed up something on my iPhone (using iFuntastic), and did a complete restore and it brought me back to the activation screen like it was new out of the box. (I used the method before GUI to unlock it). With my Fido SIM card still inside, I proceeded to activate the phone with the program and planned to follow the steps afterwards.
After the activation process was done, the phone picked up a full Fido signal, and it was good to go, making calls, sending SMS, etc. completely bypassing all other steps in the Mac OSX tutorials. Was it a fluke, or was it due to some previous software not being wiped out?

your phone was already unlocked... restore doesn't change that.
