am I the only one bored with iphone after a week?

I think I may some psychiatric disorder.....perhaps a manic phase of the severe manic disorder?? - I just think there is not much to the darn phone....not much to marvel at...in addition it has poor battery life and VERY slow NY EDGE speeds....

Posted by: NineToez

When you're in a Hot Spot, the phone PNWZ for 'net, YouTube, etc. Just load up some music and videos too and you won't put it down.

Posted by: ferniesp

I think the boredom is pretty common. Look at who's left from the very get go in this forum. This is not a magic phone! It's a fun phone when it works. For me, the network is sooooooooooooo bad and the Iphone in my opinion doesn't hold a signal very well at all. Other then that, it's nice but I think people are starting to move on.

Posted by: TimmyPoo

Personally I still can't get over it. I may still be under the trance of that wizard el Jobso, but I'm definitely lovin it.

Posted by: Cizan

What phone did you have before it that you didnt get tired of so fast? id suggest the installer apps to mess around for awhile, other than that you gotta remind yourself that its just a phone.

Posted by: datboililp

^^i play with apps all the time. so i never get bored.. woohoo for mario and contra

Yes I think so My battery is great... going on two days (might get three) out of a battery.

Posted by: CyniKal.Mindset

i get bored of every phone BUT this phone just gets attention all over and its just so user friendly or something I dunno...

Posted by: soulweaponry

if you get bored, you must not know what to do with it. People get bored on computers when they don't know what to do on the Internet too. They jut go online, look at youtube, get bored and log off. You need to learn to make the most out of a product

Posted by: comp_king

F the Iphone!...

Posted by: BeyondTheTech

I need more interactivity with this thing. I shouldn't have to go online to play a game, there should be at least one damn game by now... 3 months after launch and we only get one icon and its only good for making them more money (iTunes Store)? Even the crappiest Windows Mobile Smartphone and the Nanos had Solitaire. If I have to go online, it should be a multiplayer trivia game, like Buzztime.

And, no, I'm not going to hack my phone for NES or Minesweeper.

Its just a phone

If your before your 2 week return , than return it and move on go back to your other carrier.

Its just a phone

answer to op, yes.

Posted by: sungfra

Personally, I think the iPhone is more than a phone since it has more entertainment potential than the other phones on the market these days. Second of all, although first generation of the 3rd party apps have not reached the full potential of the iPhone, it takes time for the developers to learn the device also.
I have used quite a number of phones (e.g. I have owned all the Nokia N series phones except the N91, Nokia Sirocco, SE 900/990/P1, Eten Glofish, HTC Tytn ...) over the years and have not found a device that I have spent more time on.

Posted by: MI_canuck

had mine for 2 months - not bored in the slightest (i doubt i'll ever be actually)... i use it (music, web, weather, email, sms, stocks, alarms, you name it) every single day... best phone i've ever owned!

peace

I live in Albany and the edge speed is the same as the EVDO from Horizon, absolutely NO difference in downloading email and surfing the web. As far as battery life being poor, What were you running and doing on it that drained it. I know I watched 3 9/11 movies on mine at work with the headphones on total of 2 hours and listened to music the rest of the day and still had over 1/2 the battery left by the time I got home at 5pm. I would always let the battery drain and than fully charge overnight.

Im not bored with the nokia because it does so much more, have 30 games loaded on my phone, yes i can listen to music, browse full webpages just like iphone, have a great camera and video, use my bluetoothheadset when working out or working, watch youtube, use my gps, and so much more. I never said it was as smooth or easy as the iphone, but yes i was bored very fast. Having music on a phone and watching video and youtube or even google maps isnt a new concept at all, so i guess its what you have been exposed to that will either make or break a device

Posted by: free_gas

I put my iPhone back in the box...

Posted by: dsigma6

I was over this phone the 2nd day I had it, but that's just how I am. I still wouldn't get rid of it though. Missing features aside, it makes most other phones laughable.

Posted by: ferniesp

I was so bored with it that I sold it late last night. Time to move on.

Posted by: shaolinmonk

haven't had this much fun with a phone since the nokia 3650...

daily apps and performance upgrades through installer ... keeps it fresh

Posted by: arcanic

I originally sold my iPhone for the TyTN II. (Wanted Bluetooth PAN to my laptop) I still have the TyTN II (Kaiser) and it's my main phone, however, two days later I re-purchased the iPhone. I needed a iPod and decided it was better to buy this than the Touch.

I absolutely love the iPhone, it's buttery smooth OS and sexy design is unmatched.

TRUTH is also not bored with Nokia because he is a so-called "Nokia Agent" -- who was given a free Nokia N95 US prototype by the company for tirelessly promoting Nokia. He then promptly listed the phone on eBay.

"Truth" should really tell the truth about his activities when posting on non-Nokia boards.

Promises, promises. We've heard this before, fernie. Are you really moving on? Is this really your last post here? Or are you going to get an 8th iPhone, and post yet AGAIN complaining about it.

MY HTC touch isnt boring cause i can always change it up and add programs etc. but i can deff agree that after a month the Iphone did get kinda boring because of 1.1.1 killed all my apps, so i cant mods its liek i can on my touch but its still cool never the less. i know people who got the phone after they say the cool apps and nes game son it so now that their gone it does kinda suck not having them but oh well

there's been a lot of quality apps build after 1.1.1. the message notification and the new services menu is cool..i'm still not sure why people updated the firmware knowing it didn't bring much to the table

I got back on the boards because of the update. Yes, it fixed my volume issue but I just couldnt' stand the call quality. I could have stayed with it to use as a touch but I found myself not using it that much so I decided to dump it. Going forward, the phone has lots of potential. MY hope is that Apple will dump AT&T and go to Verizon. I can only dream.

Yes, I will move on now that the phone has left the building. Of course, I will still lurk.

Posted by: flyingdutchman

I guess it really depends what you are looking for. If you want something to tinker with then most any apple product is not for you. For me I just wanted a good music player web experience and basic PIM functions. The iPhone does that without crashing to the point where I have to restart it. But like I said if you are more interested in tinkering then ya a s60 or wm6 is a better choice.

Posted by: ferniesp

To whoever called me an Iphone hater. You could not be more wrong! I think the phone has potential. For me, it's not ready for prime time. If things get better, I may try it again.

Posted by: H0CKEY

my iPhone is decent, somehwhat entertaining and useful.....but it still bores me now n then, do to its lacking in most area's a limitations .......good thing i kept my N95 cause thats the best handset out

Posted by: Kricket

i havent gotten bored with my iphone yet - although ive only had it for a few weeks (maybe a month) - for commuters like myself, this thing is a godsend - browsing the internet while listening to music on the train is just tops

i mean, with the s60 handsets you get a little more functionality - but the lag KILLS me - i CANT STAND having to wait 10-15 seconds just to send a text message that says: "ok" - its for that reason that i wont go back to s60 unless there is a MAJOR update in speed - its also one of the reasons i dont consider the n95 anywhere near the top when it comes to best handsets...

Posted by: santfekuss

I must admit I am also, think I'll start using my Sony Ericsson s500i again (I did at the weekend and never missed the iPhone) and just pop in a PAYG sim in the iPhone for web browsing and music 'n' stuff.

I was never over-excited about the iPhone. I wanted one, but I was in the market for a phone and a PDA anyway. I like the iPhone more than any other phone I've ever had. It is more useful to me and more fun. Of course, my life doesn't revolve around my gadgets. I like them and use them, but I never get too wrapped up in them.

I will say that I haven't had any reception or battery issues, and EDGE has been fast enough for my needs. I am very happy with the phone, but I am not driving down the road with my iPhone hanging out my truck window either...

What phone did this supposedly happen on? You are standing by your story that sending an SMS took 10-15 seconds?

It is my opinion that you have never touched an S60 device and are just repeating what you have read.

10-15 seconds Crazy. I've used several S60 phones and never had a text message take any longer than a couple of seconds to send. I wouldn't want to wait that long either for a simple text. If speed is your only reason for not using nokia's devices, it seems they've finally learned that snappy == good. They've started adding decent ram to their phones and the change in speed in noticeable.

^ your opinion is wrong - ive had experience with a few different s60 phones starting with the 7610 and most recently, the n73 - and yes - 10-15 seconds - and im not talking about the time from clicking "send" to the time the thing actually says "message sent"

im talking about going into the menu - opening up the sms app - selecting a friends name from the contacts list - typing the message - and sending it

between each and every one of those steps - there is a 1-2 second LAG

im thinking youre the person thats never used an s60 phone - it is a WELL known fact that they are laggy - and its funny to me, everytime a new s60 device comes out - people exclaim how its "SO much faster" - but im thinking the reason for this excitement is that people have gotten used to the slow speed

when i went from my 7610 to a "dumbphone" (this was a couple of years ago) - i couldnt believe how much faster it was...

EDIT - you have to realize, s60s are not like normal phones - they are almost like tiny little computers - the sms app in s60's is just like an application on your computer - you have to open it up and wait for it to load before you can start using it - sending an mms or an email takes even LONGER - its just a pain knowing you have so much functionality on your phone but it takes so long to do anything...

Posted by: OGHowie

I don't really get bored of surfing the web so I'm still very happy with my iPhone. Can't really imagine using anything else now.

Posted by: Kricket

sorry to double post - but i found this pretty interesting - i went into the s60 forum to do a quick search - i just used "slow" as my search term and ONLY searched in the titles of threads - here are the titles of a few threads from the first page of searches:

- "n75 slow...delay when selecting icons"
- "n73 super slow"
- "n73 responds slow?"
- "n73me slow?"
- "n80 pretty slow, lagging"
- "e50 - supposed to run slow?"
- "e70-2 somewhat slow...any fix?"
- "n80 working slow?"
- "slow n73"

i actually lol'ed - and thats just from the first 15 threads of the search results...

please note - all of those threads were started by different users...

LOL....10 to 15 seconds!!!!.....i can short cut my SMS to a single key and open, T9 my message and send in about 5 seconds more or less depending only on the message length to T9 it in

just face it the iPhone is just a pretty UI phone, lacking alot, but sure the browser is great on that size screen,

lol - even if you short cut it - itll take 2-3 seconds for the app to even open

and im not saying the iphone is better than the s60 - i NEVER said that or eluded to it - im just saying the s60's are slow

all i here is this lacking a lot... honestly besides the cam and group spamming i'm not missing anything from the plethora of smartphones i had before.. and i'm the type of person that installs every damn app at least once to see what it does...

shortcut should be instant... the message app is slower when it's not opened in the background... but once you have it opened you should experience very little lag... especially on the newer devices...

s60 is slow when you open that "new message" from the stanby screen.

if you just go straight to the inbox it's much faster...

Posted by: Kricket

^ oh - shortcutting definitely cuts down on time - but keep in mind, with s60's, once you open up an app or two - the overall performance of the phone slows down significantly - if youve got apps open in the background - the time to open up other apps actually increases...

sorry completely disagree.. apps in the background will switch instantly... the only reason you'll have lag is because apps are crashing left and right cause of insufficent ram lol... bad that has been addressed in the newer phones n76, e90 and n95-nam/8gig

Posted by: Kricket

ill admit - ive only used the n95 for a couple of days (borrowed from a friend) - and i will say, its quicker than the n73/n80 generation - but still has noticeable lag

now this wasnt the north american version, so maybe they made some big changes there - but from what i saw those two days - and from pretty much ALL of the reviews ive read, even the n95 hasnt escaped the curse of the laggy s60 os...

functionality? theoretically - HUGE
actual use? slow

If anyone should tell the Truth its you, i was in a s60 agent contest and won a us3g n95, and even after that i purchased an iphone and had it unlocked, Like i said its a pretty phone and great ui, n95 cant compare to it in that sense, but its lacking meat and potatoes and im a meat and potatoes Guy.
P.S. I also never sold my us 3g n95 on ebay, as i posted in the s60 forum was testing the waters to see what i can get because it wasnt released yet. I had all intentions of getting it when it was released.

The n95 is a pretty quick phone overrall, now with the us3g and the extra battery and ram, all those issues are resolved, its still not as smooth as the iphone, but ill ask you 1 question when you talk about sending a text message, even if it took 10-15 seconds as you say, i can send it out to my whole phonebook at 1 time, how long will it take you to do that on the iphone, Just curious.

again - this is one of the MAJOR faults of the iphone - no ability to send sms to multiple people (in fact, if you take a look at my other posts - youll see i ALWAYS bring this up)

ill state it again because i think people dont understand - im NOT saying the iphone is better than the n95 - im saying the s60 ui is SLOW (which, it is)

if i took out my k790i and sent a message to everyone in my phonebook - i GUARANTEE i would do it faster than you would with your n95 (and both of us would beat an iphone user)

it seems like people are trying to defend their s60 without even reading what i posted...

No i am not defending my s60 kricket, as a matter of fact i was gonna use your k790a as an example instead, i was trying to explain to you how i feel about comments of slowness, they rear there head in different directions, iphone ui is faster than n95 for sure, but i can get to my music faster than the iphone, all i do it hit play button and my music starts, edge is faster on n95 so i can browse more pages quicker, google maps searches faster again because of edge, i can make a call faster on the n95 then on the iphone, but yes the iphone is a faster device in terms of ui and its nicer to look at while doing it. I agree, but when using a device it isnt only about that, i guess thats what we all are trying to get across.

Posted by: shaolinmonk

on the iphone everything just flows nice and smooth...even if there is lag it's less notcable because of the way everything animates..

the n95 does the building blocks ugly look which makes everything seem slower...

but in general if talk multimedia,... music and vidoe the iphone is superior... just the way the photo gallery handes images is impresssive...

It's just become a piece of my kit now. I do use it to browse a few sites, particularly when I'm at the doc's office twice a week for my allergy shots. I have to sit there for 30 minutes so they can be sure I don't go into anaphylactic shock... so I listen to music and browse the web.

Yeah, the luster has worn off, it's just a device to me now.

build quality and performance??? what do you mean i've seen about 20 iphones (physically used, unlocked and testeds etc...)and they all look and feel the same except for the screens being used...

While the "new car" shine has worn off my iPhone, I still have to say it's the best device I've owned. I don't find myself complaining about the lack of apps, having owned three separate Sidekicks in my life. If you ever want to see a TRULY locked down phone, try one of those.

What has kept me locked into the iPod isn't just the UI, or the fact that it's a fairly small converged device. It is the most stable Smartphone (or at least Brighter-then-Average phone) I've owned. From a 3650, to a SK, to a Dash, to two different Blackberries, ALL of them had stability issues. I haven't HAD to restart my iPhone since I installed the BSD Subsystem off of AppTap. While 1.1.1 killed the third party apps, it's still a great phone, with a platform that Apple will extend....unfortunately, at it's own damned pace.

I can do almost everything with my lowly V360 that you can do with your Iphone... I'm not an Iphone hater, but c'mon people... to say that it's the most revolutionary phone to date is a HUGE understatement... I admit, that flip thing it does with the Internet browser is pretty cool, from horizontal to vertical, and it's got a big screen but besides that?... I have Google Maps on my phone (which I never use) and I have Opera Mini which is every bit as good as Safari... and I've been using Opera Mini for over a year now... Safari can't handle flash, so you can't say it's better than Opera... YouTube videos?... wow, really?... any phone that can handle video streaming can do that nowadays... plus you're locked in AT&Tingular (unless you have an unlocked one which of course voids the warranty)... and now they have some firmware update that killed third party apps?... that sounds pretty abysmal... IF it had 3G and IF it could do video calls (or at LEAST video sharing) and had Stereo Bluetooth then I would say it's pretty cool... Maybe Version 2 will be better next year... Also, personally I only like flip phones (to protect the internal screen)... AND the Iphone is BIG... it's not like you can just keep it in your pocket and walk down the street with it... you have to have like a fanny pack or keep it in a special holster right?...
I guess that's about all I have to say for now... I'm sure you guys will be replying to this (but you already know most of what I'm saying anyway)...
ALSO, you don't have to own a great phone to be an expert on them... all you need to do to have a great phone is be willing to fork over the money... anybody can do that... I'm not less of a phone owner because I have a V360 (unlocked BTW which is MUCH cooler than the crappy TMobile version)... and anyways I've ordered the Nokia 6267 which I should get in a few days, which can support up to 4GB which is the same as that of the 4GB version Iphone (I know there's also and 8GB version or whatever)...

And the award for most overhyped phone of the year goes to... (drum roll)... what do you think?...

I've owned four...and have bought & sold another 15....so we're pretty even, aren't we? Having opened each one and examined each one too...I can tell you that I have seen screens that were not level, not even on all four sides...and that had visible differences in brightness and sharpness. I have seen those that had almost sharp edges where the chrome metal trim meets the brushed aluminum backpiece. I have seen those with volume buttons "loose", and some so tight that they can barely be moved.

I have seen phones that had adequate earpiece volume...some that were barely usable. I have seen several (actually owned two) that would not register a full battery charge...and the results were usage meters that did not function. I have had two phones that would jump from the springboard to a non-chosen app just by setting the phone down on a desktop. I have seen a couple that would not charge by using the wall charger/adapter...but would only work with the USB connection on the PC in conjunction with the dock.

No phone is perfect. And I must admit that Apple gave me tremendous service the whole time...but I just got tired of not getting a phone that performed at 100%. The first iPhone I had...I foolishly traded for a Nokia N95. It was the only iPhone I have ever had without a noticeable glitch. I have kicked myself in the butt numerous times for trading that one off...

So...yes, the iPhone has issues with construction and performance. I am not critical of the phone...and am not slamming Apple...

I am ready and willing to try the iPhone again...if I can find another "good one", or Apple addresses the issues it has.

Yeah, and I know I'm anal...but not so anal that I would pick a good phone apart. But, I have only started messing with iPhones in bulk recently...and there is a real chance that the quality control at Apple has gotten worse with increased supply and demand that the price drop has most certainly promoted.

Shaolinmonk...I want to buy my next iPhone from you. Apple sends you all the good ones...

I can do almost everything with my lowly V360 that you can do with your Iphone... I'm not an Iphone hater, but c'mon people... to say that it's the most revolutionary phone to date is a HUGE understatement...

i think you mean overstatement

and whats "revolutionary" about the iphone is NOT the features it has - its the ui - and yes, its the most revolutionary ui in the mobile phone world - lightyears ahead of motorola's ui (although i am curious to see the new linux-based ui moto has been working on - i might actually consider getting one if its actually intuitive)

you can upload your own ringtones to the iphone - you just have to hack it (the equivalent of you unbranding your v360 making it "much cooler than the crappy tmobile version")

its funny - you basically said: "you cant do this unless you hack your phone - which is bad" - and then in the same post "i hacked my phone with new firmware - making it awesome" - see the double-standard?

and you really think the iphone is that big?

moto v360: 24 mm thick
iphone: 11.6 mm thick

i have my iphone in my pocket and no one even knows its there because its so thin - when i have my k790i in my pocket, it looks like im excited because its almost twice as thick - and your v360 is even THICKER than the k790 - do you carry around a fanny pack? because your phone is over TWICE as thick as the iphone (and when youre talking about putting a phone in your pocket, the thickness is the determining factor as to whether it looks goofy)

and opera mini is a fantastic program - but you cant even compare it to safari on a screen thats LITERALLY 10 times as big as that of the v360 - keep in mind, opera mini renders ALL of the web-pages you see to make them small enough to send over the network, and small enough for screens - in the same time you see a completely changed website, i see the fully rendered website on my iphone

Don't know about that, but I do know that Apple is making a habit now of giving refurbs as replacements rather than new phones. Sucks...

Yeah. I got a refurbished iPhone yesterday, and I thought "this would be fine if it were months down the road, so I took it back and got a brand new replacement (since it was still within 14 days). Got a week 39 with the good 7 series screen (no negative black issue). All is good.

Davistld01 i hope you try iphone again. but i'm sure the price drop has something to do with less QC than before.

Anywho, I haven't even gotten mine yet (either tonight or tomorrow morning) and I already love it! I couldn't ever see myself getting bored with that phone. I've played with my cousins and he has to pry it out of my hands to get it back

What do you use it for? Like name your everyday experience on it.

Well, I sent my phone to it's new owner. I will lurk and respond only as I need to. Everyone get up and clap your hands because ferniesp has left the building. I know many will miss me.

No, I bought the European grey version... it's unbranded/unlocked out of the box... BTW I also do have the TMob version which I could hack to get the same features if I wanted to but I haven't done it, not that there's anything wrong with that... so yes, I didn't hack my phone...
What's cool about the European version is that it doesn't ask for the permission prompts everytime when using Opera Mini unlike the TMob version which requires a hack to change it... I know it's possible but I haven't done it... I did get TMob to unlock it for free though... Anyways, if you ask AT&Tingular, don't they have to unlock your Iphone for free?...

haha... no you can upload your own ringtones... you just have to void the warranty first... well what about all the users out there who don't either know how to hack it or don't want to void the warranty or risk bricking it (?)... putz...

You might be right, I don't know because I don't have the thing... but length wise it's definitely bigger and I've never tried personally but from just looking at it it doesn't look like it would fit in my pocket...

Posted by: reactionsok

hey to the person with the k790i - i'm in between getting the iphone or the SE 810i -

what do you think?

thanks :nerd:

You think I don't know that the V360 has a relatively primitive UI?... of course I know that... it's kind of an old phone now, but it doesn't suck... and yes Motorola's new UI looks much better (ala RAZR2 V8)...

Well I was using Opera Mini a year before the Iphone came out and at least you agree that OM kicks *ss... yes I'll give it to you that the Iphone does have a big screen which is somewhat cool, but it still can't do flash either and I can go to all the same websites that you can go to and when version 4 is finally released (it's still in crappy BETA mode) it will have the full page view just like Safari does plus the small screen rendering version plus landscape mode and yes I do agree with you that 176x220 is a bit small and that's why I'm getting a phone that has 240x320 resolution or whatever... Plus you can do mobile banking and secure shopping on OM also which is pretty f*ckin' awesome... and remember, OM isn't the only Java app out there...
Look, I'm sure a year or two from now when they release the next Iphone and it has all the features that were missing from the first model, I'm sure it'll be pretty cool, but until then... (granted, wi-fi is cool)...
