Can't get past splash screen

A Moto Q was found in the store I work in and placed in the safe until it would be claimed. When I was transferred to this store I discovered it in the safe. Realizing it was an expensive phone I obtained a charger and tried to turn it on to find a nember to contact the owner. I can only get it to come up to the Verizon splash page and no further. Verizon has been no help. Does anyone have any suggestions. I'm sure whoever paid for it would like it back. The date code shows it was made in March 2006 if that is any help. Thanks!
