Battery door sensor?

I just noticed my v3c has two electrical contacts that touch the battery door when its in place. does this have any function? it doesnt seem to have any noticable effect. my v3 doesnt have this, also has a plastic door.

Correction, my v3 does have contacts also. Somehow i did not see them when i first looked. Also the battery door is in fact metal, not plastic. Sorry for the misinformation.

Its grounding for the phone in case the circuit board shorts out or something.
