I just bought a 6230i for $20. 900 isnt in my coverage area. I use AT&T. I was wondering if it was possible to put 850 in the 6230i. Ive done this numerous times with motorola using a simple seem edit.

How can you add hardware capability with a SEEM edit?

You mean enabling 850 MHz?

Never heard of such a thing for the 6230i.

At&t uses 1900 and 850 MHz in the US, not 900. Did you mean 1900?

No you can't do anything with the phone if 850Mhz is the only frequency available in your area.

You could sell it and get a 6230b, which has 850/1800/1900.

Some Motorola phones are advertised as tri-band phone like the ROKR E6 but the chip is quad-band thus SEEM edit could enable quad-band.

Thanks for your help but I already have a 6230b. The 6230i has more internal memory, larger camera, larger screen. Does anyone know of nokia programs out?

News flash, the NOKIA 6230i is NOT a Motorola. I think that should be a big enough clue for you

Can't do anything like a seem edit on the nokia 6230i to 'enable' any bands.

It is only a triband phone without 850 and there's no way to make it operate on that band.

Hope this helps..

thanks for your help

eat-ent,

Greetings and welcome to HoFo!

This is a FAQ... Nokia, unlike Motorola, has been making its Tri-band models without ACTUAL hardware components that are "capable" of Quad-band operation. Which means, it MUST MODIFY to achieve the goal (i.e. GSM900 > GSM850) by replacing a few SAW filters and/or resisters.

In the past, we have debate on some shops claims to perform such mod with just software... http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=866512 but in the end, it has been BUSTED with scientific proof.

im looking into it thank you!!

I heard there were a few 6230i built with gsm850. I've been on the lookout for one ever since. I think it would be have been a fine machine in it's time but right now it's somewhat overshadowed by more recent models which do it all and more (so they say).
FCC might have some records...
