volume comparison

I am posting this from outside the apple store where I just did a volume comparison between my 1.0.2 and their 1.1.1. NO DIFFERENCE WHATSOEVER! Apple are playing silly buggers and some people are falling for it, go test for yourself and you'll see.

Some phones there is a significant difference others none. Don't use your experience to generalize this last update for EVERYBODY.

Noticed a very, very slight increase in earpiece volume, but ringer volumes, and speakerphone volumes did not change.

For me I noticed a big increase in earphone and maybe a little in speakerphone mode.

yeah, my iPhone is turning out to be crap all around.

Update didn't fix the volume problem and my screen still sucks.

I compared it to about 10 phones in the store, that's a pretty fair comparison. That was speaker and earpiece volume. If you're experiencing a placebo effect that's fine but my experience is based on an actual comparison. Like i said, go and try it and you'll see.

Hard to get a placebo effect when i didn't bother updating to 1.1.1. You make alot of assumptions based on nothing. For one, that the 10 phones you tried out represent a million and a half. And 2, that i'm running current firmware when i couldn't give a damn. Not to be an ***, just saying. It's one thing to speculate. It's another to say "my phone wasn't improved, so nobody's is!"

Personally, i always use a bt headset, so volume is a nonissue for me. I bought the iPhone knowing it had a crappy speakerphone volume. So no surprises here or hopes lost when an update didn't fix it.

My phone was definitely improved. I tested it by calling the IVR on our phone system at work. If someone wants, I can setup a milliwatt test number. Someone with a 1.0.2 could call itt... and we can see what the results are (if they can record it somehow).. then update and call it again.

both of mine increased!

Just updated to 1.1.1. Absolutely no difference in volume. None. It still stinks.

But hey, they changed the calculator icon!!! Good to see Apple has its priorities straight!

no volume change on mine either.......boy I wish!! But at least we are moving up with some changes....I look forward to more

An upgrade is only an upgrade if the improvement is noted by 100% of the devices users. If only a few notice a real difference...it's not a noteworthy upgrade, and probably more placebo effect than genuine improvement.

I think Apple is grasping at straws at this point where volume in the earpiece, speakerphone and ringer/alert volume improvement is concerned. These issue are clearly hardware and not software related...and no update will solve them, 100% for everybody.

Each one of my iPhones had an earpiece volume that was barely adequate...but usable, but only at maximum adjustment...that shows a real hardware issue. When the thing is cranked to the max and it's only as loud as a 2-or-3 level on most any other phone...there is a problem.

I doubt seriously that Apple will make any headway here with this design at least. But, I hope that the next generation of the iPhone will come "out of the chute" louder by 100% in all the areas that are not now.

If that's the case...I'll give the iPhone another dance!!

at first i noticed no difference, that is until i went to a bar that i went to before and i could not hear the other person on the line (this was with firmware 1.0.2??), now with the new update i was surprised that i was able to hear the other person and clearly that is.....same with driving with music i can hear the other caller much clearer and louder...speakerphone still sucks....

I'm surprised Apple even finally acknowledged there is a problem with the volume. Based on that I really thought 1.1.1 might fix it. But it didn't for me.

All I know is that since the update I've been using the side rocker switch to reduce the volume on many calls when listening through the earpiece. I never did that before, always kept it up all the way which was quite good. Can't really say if the speakerphone is better or not but it's actually pretty good for me.

Actually, the last poster got it right. The easiest way to tell if your volume increased is to see if at max setting you have to turn DOWN the volume.

Personally, I got no improvement in the volume.

I tried the file linked here:

http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1253433

It seemed a little better, then I adjusted the settings using Pref Setter on a Mac. Tried a bunch of settings and now it is almost too loud. I went back and edited the file back down, currently using around 1.5 and 2.0 for each setting. I will play around with it some more later.
