8925/Tilt problem with APN isp.cingular

I got my Tilt yesterday and the store manager subscribe me to the "PDA Personal Max" data plan (39.99).

When I tried to use the isp.cingular APN, it would not even connect. I then call up the att support and the lady had me power off my and and take off the battery while she "refresh" my account. After powering my phone back. I was able to connect via isp.cingular but no traffic can get through.

Bare in mind that all this while, I was able to connect via wap.cingular which is MediaNet. We did a few more troubleshooting like, re-entering the username and password and verify the settings and still the same issue with isp.cingular.

After about half an hour of troubleshooting, she told me that my data plan does not support the isp.cingular setting and proceed to change me to a plan the she claims to support isp.cingular (PDACnctUntlAdd). I am not sure what plan this is. Basically, my 1500Msgs was taken off when I switch to this plan but the price remain the same.

She had me siwtch off the phone and take off the battery again while the refresh my account again. After powering back on my phone, I still have the same issue, I can connect to the isp.cingular profile but cannot browser to anywhere.

Any help/suggestion is much appreciated.

The CSR gave you correct advice. ISP is only available through the PDA Connect Unlimited plan.
In order to use PIE, you need to resort back to WAP. With WM6 on your Tilt, go to "Programs" and then "Proxy" settings. That will give the abililty to switch back and forth between the two connections. You can put it in your start menu for easier access.

what's the difference between isp.cingular and wap.cingular? I was under the impression that both get you to the same place at the same speed (provided everything else is the same).

Prubin,

Thanks for the clarification. So for PIE to work, I'll have to use wap.cingular ? What is the purpose of the proxy settings than ? I know there is the remove proxy and restore proxy ? Can you please elaborate more about the functionality of the proxy settings.

Thanks.

All you have to do it call Customer Care and ask them to contact Tech. Then ask them to change your access point from wap to isp. I had this issue with the blackberry.

it would seem to me that if you have to use wap.cingulargprs only
you could get away with using a mediamax plan instead of the $40 PDA/1500
since going to wap is the mediamax doorway to the web

Off the record of course

On support site they encourage to use wap. I called tech support - was told we can use both. "isp" didn't work today with PIE,
I installed Opera 8.95 browser, really recomend it. worked with ISP, with WAP was slow.
Now I have PIE and opera working with wap and isp.
Question: what service should i use , don't want to be charged. ISP seems a bit faster and stable on both 3G abd edge.

Any thoughts?

Listening in on this.. I have a similar problem. I unlocked my Tilt and am using the settings that I had on my WM5 HP iPAQ HW6945 for cellone. for some reason, I cannot get the PIE browser to open any pages, but I am able to send/receive all my email and send MMS no problem.

Programs, tools, disable proxy. PIE does indeed work with ISP.

not so much, I have the AT&T bloat disable with hard reset / soft reset.
