Found a BB Curve!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I found a ATT BB Curve on the ground yesterday without a SIM card in it (yeah I still can't believe it either)! After trying to find the owner (which couldn't), I tried to call home or something in the contacts but no SIM card! The place I was at didn't have a lost or found (or anything of that nature).

I'm going to be honest, I want to use it. Its like getting a new toy. Its alot brighter and device is alot smaller than my 8525. I have always wanted to try a BB but always favored the WM OS.

BUT, I have a coule questions, can I get in trouble if I put my SIM in it and use it?

Could they match my cell number with a different IMEI number?

God forbid that the thing was stolen and just thrown on the ground and then I get blamed for it.

I would apprecaite any advice here. Thanks ahead of time.

I'm not going to lie, that story does not sound no where near believable. I believe you may have found it, but not w/o a sim or contacts, as they are stored to the phone by default. Lol. Also, whether the sim is in or out, recent calls still appear on the list. The real story, we may never know.

I will still give you the honest answer. I work for at&t and yes your phone can be tracked. It can even be tracked whether you update the imei on the account or not. The question is whether it will be.

Call AT&T and see if they can find the owner.

Thanks for the information!

As for you thinking whatever you are, I regret you feel that way. I already own the best phone out (maybe an IPhone argument could be inserted here but after all the problems with the Tilt, it could only be an IPhone argument)!

Why didn't you turn it in to the police? It is very unusual to find a cell phone with no SIM card. Place an ad in your local paper in the lost and found section - most "found" ads are free. The management at the place you were at wouldn't accept the phone in case someone inquired about it? Call AT&T and provide the IMEI number. They won't give you personal details on the owner, but they can make contact.

Do the right thing. If no-one claims it, then at least you can say you tried. You would want the same to happen if it was you that lost a phone.

This isn't that difficult to believe guys. 8 days ago, after picking up takeout chinese food last Friday night, my wife and I were driving through the parking lot back to the main road to head home.

We drive by a park bench, and there was a purse just sitting there. Nobody was around. Early evening.

I stop, get out, pick it up, and start looking though it to see who the owner was.

We found a phone, ID, checkbook, tons of personal stuff, and a paystub. After spending two hours calling 411, contacts in her phone, trying to find this girl, it was her paystub that came through. She worked at the CVS down the street from our house. I called there, and she was the one that answered the phone.

I asked her if she was missing her purse, and she was totally relieved. The wife and I took it up to her and there was the girl on the ID in the purse. She had been down at the strip mall near the chinese food place a few hours ago, and left her purse on the bench when her ride got there.

Here is what I recommend you do.

Contact AT&T. Tell them what happened. Give customer service YOUR information. Then ask customer service to see who owns the phone, and have customer service contact them. Then customer service can see if the customer wants your information. This protects the customer's information. It also puts the onus on the person that lost the phone to make contact with you who found the phone.

Problems with the TILT ????????????

All the problems with the Tilt? What are you smoking? Comments like this are what start rumors and incite more bullcrap threads. There is no way your 8525 is better than a Tilt.. moving forward....

You should call At&t, give them the IMEI of the phone and your contact info. Then just wait and see if they find the owner. The phone won't work properly if you just put your sim in anyway. You will have voice and text but the data and email won't work unless you add a BB plan to your account.

Do the right thing dude! Turn it in to AT&T with the IMEI of the phone.

Other wise...you will have guilt in your conscience.

You can pm me the imei and I'll look it up for it you like.

I found a razr on my way home from school about a year ago, under some leaves....thought it was trash at first but looked closer and it was a razr....called the last person on it, she said she'd have the owner call me, and I returned the phone the next day....girl was VERY happy.

You already have a 8525....do the right thing and do what people on here suggest....AT&T should have the IMEI number in their system, unless the person didn't register it....but if they report the phone lost/stolen, then when you put your sim in the phone, the phone CAN be traced back to you....

No response from the Op? Lol. It's okay, I'm not mad at you. I just dislike being lied to.

Return it, U might get rewarded or a Senior to pinch your cheeks thanking you. You never know if that phone was used in a robbery...

Hmm...Jayden...15 other phones in your collection?

LOL,it's always funny to see the response to these types of posts. The OP cares about one thing and one thing only, and that's if s/he would get in trouble for using the phone that s/he found/stole. Nothing else. The rest of the story is just BS. Come on, the OP "finds" a phone with no SIM inside? I'm sure that happens to a lot of people, just losing their phone but remembering to take the SIM out before losing it. And there are no contacts in the phone and no call history? Last I remembered, the call history was a pain to get rid off on blackberrys, and it shows up regardless of whether a SIM was inside or not.

So to the OP, the answer is no, you most likely won't get in trouble. You could, but probably not.

ps. what's owing "the best phone out" have to do with anything? Like you said,

Next time, think of a better excuse.

AMEN!

I don't care what you do with it, but don't bring a weak story like that.

If it were my blackberry curve, i'd be very happy for someone to return it to me, but I wouldn't take my sim card out of it. No sim+no contacts on a phone = stolen (I think) or dropped for a reason--like if it's involved in a crime. Personally, i'd take it to the police.

If the BB is not register on the Blackberry internet Service , that it you can use it. Do not bother returning it to the police, but maybe to ATT store can help. We can trace it thought the Pin number if the owner did register the device , if not...it is your
