anyone manage to find a way to SIM unlock the tilt yet? i am an OLD ATT customer on a great plan and want to get a Tilt, but i don't think my 5 year old blue SIM card will work in it and i am not interested in a new (more expensive) plan or contract ...

there's noway to unlock the phone as of yet. That'll probably come out soon but as of right now you can't.

You can however buy the HTC TyTn II which is already unlocked.

SIM unlock is very easy. And legal. And actually done by AT&T.

Step 1: Call AT&T, tell them you travel alot internationally. Ask them to to add the "International Dial" add on to your account (it costs like $6/month).

Step 2: Tell them you also travel for extended periods of time and might need to use a local SIM in your phone. And you need an unlock code to do it. Since you have the international plan, they almost always will oblige. (if they don't, hang up, call back, get another rep, and ask again. They will eventually do it)

Step 3: They ask for your IMEI number. And they give you an unlock code.

Step 4: Say thanks to them

Step 5: Go online to your account manager, and remove the Int'l Plan on your features page to cancel it. You will only be charged a pro-rated amount for the feature.

Step 6: Enjoy your SIM unlocked phone.

It's easier than adding services to your phone service. I've done it numerous times.

Just wait two weeks, call in and tell them you are going to Europe and you need the phone to work there with a different Sim. They will write up an application to send you a sim unlock code. You give them your email adress and they will send it to you within a few days.

if you cid unlock and you flash with factory rom wont that unlock the sim? i know you can unlock the sim which allows you to use any sim. cid locking means you cant flash with just any rom and i thought the sim lock was in the rom. is this not correct? if its not then i learned something and thank you for correcting me.
