I use Pocket Controller from my desktop. It allows you to remotely contol your mobile device from your desk. It has some other neat tools along with video/screen capture , registry editor, presentation tools, etc.

Will this work;
Amazon.com has the Tilt for 175.00, 199.00 at check out then a 25.00 rebate. Now in the fine print below the price of the phone are 6 little conditions you must comply with to get the discounted rate of 199.00 on the Tilt. The main one for me is you must keep the voice and data plans for 6 months, now I will be a new AT&T customer and plan on having my current(soon to be old) cell phone number from Sprint switched over to my new ATT Tilt phone/account. I plan on getting the cheap voice plan, I believe it's 40 bux a month for 450 rollover minutes and 5k anytime minutes, which is fine for me, but you must select one of the PDA data plans and the cheapest unlimted data plan is 40 bux also, so i plan on selecting that data plan, submitting my 25.00 rebate and when i get it the rebate back making my final price 175.00 calling my credit card company up and telling them i lost my card and to issue me a new card w/a new account number and cancell the old one, when that's done i plan on changing my data plan to the Media Max 200, since I will get the same unlimimted usage for only 20 bux a month, the instant messaging to me means nothing since i probably only do about 12 or less IM's a month, so the MM 200 plan will be the way to go if i can get away with it. If you dont comply w/the conditions then the fine print says Amazon will charge back your card the 250.00 instant deduction on the phone, but since I will have that card number cancelled about a month after i order will they be able to charge me the 250? Only way i can think they can is if they get At&t themselves to do it on a bill, but i dont think that's possible. also can you use the MM200 plan as a modem on your laptop? from what i know you can't do that on the regulard PDA data plans unless you get tethering which is another 40 dollar or something like that upgrade, but my main questions is about cancelling my card after i get my phone. Att wont let you use the media max with the TilT and im sure that Amazon will report you to a creditor if they are unable to charge your cc.

At&t will let you use the MM 200 with the tilt, you just have to change it after you get a regular pda data plan, and not tell them it's for a tilt, or you can go online an change it, which is what a buddy of mine has done with his.

I have a quick question. I am looking to purchase the Tilt tomorrow...Just want to make sure of a few things before I sign my life away for a year.

1. Will the $39.99/mo data plan allow me UNLIMITED 3G data, whether it is through the phone, or the phone tethered to my laptop for internet?
2. Will I be able to use Live Search or Google Maps for the GPS, or something for free? They are telling me at the store I will have to pay an additional $15/mo just to use the GPS features.
3. I work for a large IT company and they have a policy where they only support a few phones- the Q, Blackjack, Treo, etc..The Tilt is NOT one of these. Because of this I am not sure if it will work to connect to their internal network and retrieve corp. email via Outlook. I am wondering how they could restrict it to certain models of phones, or if those are the only ones they support, and I can configure it myself. I have been unable to find anyone at work who has any idea what I am even talking about. What do you all think about this?

I customized the icons for SPB Pocket Plus 4.0.1 myself. You can find downloadable icon sets in the SPB forum, and also the directions for customizing them.

Videos made with the Tilt are stored in MPEG-4 format. Coreplayer mobile or TCPMP can play these videos back on the phone. I use CrystalPlayer on my desktop. But essentially any video player with MPEG-4 codec can play them back. Perhaps other readers can suggest additional software for Tilt and Desktop. Its seems a little ridiculous that software that could play the MPEG-4 videos was not bundled in.

1. Do I need a data plan to utilize GPS? (What are the data transfer options?)
2. Is there a "no cost" option for GPS beyond my "at home" GoogleMaps via WiFi?

1. no --you can get TomTom6, iNav, any of the other gps software and load the maps onto a 2GB or larger microSD card.
2. no --all of the non-data gps mapping apps cost $$

I think we discussed this before in this thread. The only one I know of is Resco Audio Recorder. I do not know of any freeware but prehaps someone here might suggest some.

I have Gmail set up via IMAP and for some reason, theres nothing in the emails when I open them but sending/receiving works fine. My inbox gets updated properly but theres no content in the emails.

Anyone experience this?

i had got the E90 gave it back & got the Tilt
its the best phone in the US market today
& has a good GPS & a Great Buiss phone cos opens Office 2007

Battery is Ok but can get a Double the power if u like
so on the whole a nice phone

The best price so far for me was Letstalk.com, i got 2 Tilts with a family plan and unlimited Data with unlimited nights and weekends, payed 199.99 per phones getting 125.00 bucks in rebates for each, so price after rebates would be 75.00 bucks for each ppc besides when i received them they were inmaculate, new, sealed what else can i say!.
About the front camera version wich would practically be the TYTN II that you are asking about to get it the easier way would be thru ebay, now that if you buy it from there will be probably some $800.00 since that is the european version and you will only find it unlocked and not cheaper than the price i mentioned.
Recommend it for ya??? a Billion % this is the best phone out in the markets today, Even better than the iPhone is what i read in some reviews, just so you know in case you didn't the original price would be running close to $1500 bucks so getting it from other sites including AT&T premier would be a plus, just make sure you dont go thru Wirefly they never honor their rebates.
The battery its good depending on how long you use it for net browsing, calls or other applications but for best results on your phone, get Kaiser Tweak and Bandswitch, i havent charged my phone in around 3 days now and still have 54% battery life left, thanks to those great applications, even tho i have been playing movies for my baby boy when go out and those are full dvds that im talking about that i converted and saved on my 6Gb SD Card on the Tilt.
Reception wise there again will depend on what carrier you are with, and your area, but there again this is a 3G, wifi, GPRS phone so i imagine no matter what your reception would increase and be better.
If you want an 8925 get the TILT even tho its twin the TYTN II have the camera on front, they both have the same fnctionality, they're both great, tho i love my Tilt and wouldnt change it even if i got an iPhone for free.... besides its a touch screen and can have an iPhone look on my screen instead of Today f i want to, but i don't i Love my Tilt the way it is and yes there are more applications and other programs that can make it run better but then this would be something to talk about in other threads.

Just go to Programs, Tools, and run Sprite backup to your storage card. Then with active sync you can move that file to your PC so you'll have a complete backup even if you lose the phone.

Why on earth would you want a screensaver? LCD screens don't suffer from burn-in and why would you want the phone LCD active and burning up batter if you're not using it?

Based on some of your previous questions I'm going to assume that you've downloaded a regular windows screensaver and not one designed for PocketPC so most like you can't run whatever program you have.

OK, i just got a tilt today, and other than the dpad moving, i got one question. I heard that you can make the Today screen look like the iPhone . Is this possible, and how would i do it. Just curious how it would look like that. Make people confused about asliding iPhone.

also, As a pilot, is there a way to get a topography style gps with weather, as i really dont need to see streets at 3000' above the ground.

also, is there a way to put the voice dialing on the today , or connect it to a button? i dont want to have to dig through 4 menus to get to it.

LOL I wasn't even trying to be funny or a jerk; but in hindsight it sure does read that way. I was being serious about making sure you understood that a regular windows screensaver can't run on PocketPC and that unless you just want something to look cool on the screen you don't need a screensaver on the Tilt for any reason. You have asked a number of questions that a simple RTFM, googling or even a little advanced computer literacy would have made obvious. (what is rapidshare, how do I backup contacts, etc; others on other forums with the same lordvaderr tag). I wasn't trying to bust on you but provide information to someone that I felt had less knowledge in the area.

Not sure how you got that I feel irritated. And I thought letting you know that you don't need a screensaver on LCD screens and that regular ones for windows won't run on PocketPC WAS giving you help. But there's no point in continuing this, I was trying to give you help and I apologize that it came off in a way that appeared insulting (and as mentioned, in hindsight it did; but I didn't mean it to when I first wrote it).

Just take away from this that LCD screens don't need screensavers and you need a screensaver for PocketPC if you do want to run one for aesthetic reasons. In fact I'll even go so far as to give you a couple links to some:

i dont think anyone was being mean spirited,. he was just pointing out you may not know you cant run just any exe on the pda. as was suggested though you really dont want a screensaver. reason i say that is your screen will be deactivated then youll be complaining about battery life. i know im assuming that but i just have that feeling as i have seen that happen before.

as for google maps on the phone. download the install and set it up to use com4. as for topo there are plenty of progs that allow you to use topo maps and even some that allow you to use a pda with actual flight maps if i remember correctly.

Ok, I got a question? I currently have the Blackjack w/ wm6 that I got from this forum and am truly disgusted w/ samsung and this whole wm6 thing. Can anyone give me the pros and cons of the "tilt"? It is looking like the Tilt mught be my next phone.

Thanks. Not much help though. I was really looking for multiple opinions instead of just one person who doesn't actually like it that much. Maybe I'll just stick with my wm6 blackjack. It works great and no glitches to speak of.

I wanted to find a way to sync items from my desktop to my storage card and was frustrated to find that Activesync would only allow me to sync from the sync folder on my desktop to my device memory and vice versa.

I already had Soti Pocket Controller installed to allow me to control my device from my desktop, but was really surprised to find that it also allows me to sync items from anywhere on my desktop to anywhere on my device and vice versa

Makes that $36.00 worth spending

I took advantage of the recent TILT price drop ($250 - 100 rebate = 150) for black friday (now gone) and replaced my blackjack with the TILT.

I loved my blackjack, but longed for a more PDA type phone. The TILT is much heavier. I've not used it just yet but from what I've read it does all that the blackjack does plus it fixed bluetooth voicedial and lets you tether under wm6. Also, has Wifi, 3meg camera, GPS, touchscreen. No brainer for me. Some want the smaller size of the BJ. I liked the samsung "name search" method that everyone else seemed to hate. I might miss that.

I just read this entire thread... There's some great stuff on here, and everything I tried seems to have worked--

But, I can't believe nobody's mentioned this bug / feature / whatever, that's been completely pissing me off. Maybe I'm just being dumb?

The button on the HTC Home plugin to rotate the screen sideways rotates it the wrong way!? Am I the only one that is having this problem? Using this feature, the screen rotates in the opposite direction than how it rotates when you slide out the keyboard.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me that there a setting or a registry hack or a tweak util that will change this!! I just want that button to toggle between portrait and landscape, in same direction as when the kbd is out. Just those two, nothing else.

ive had the tilt since it was first released and i have never used the screen rotation button. Honestly i have no clue why its there. Maybe im dumb.

alright couple of questions

1. i transfered my contacts from my previous phone, and i stored the contacts on the phone. now there is this /M after every contact. Does anyone know how i can get rid of them.

2. also i installed the htc home screen and the weather was working fine. i deleted a couple of programs the other day and now the weather is not working anymore. does anyone know what weather program i need to get the weather working again.

clcik Edit & u can edit it to as u want, work, home, etc

i know that the M means mobile but i the only way to get rid of it is to go into each contact individualy and erase it. i have over 250 contacts and it will take forever. does anyone know of a faster way to do it?

I found some reader programs will display the onscreen keyboard when you slide open the keyboard. Couldn't get rid of it.

The rotating button makes it easier to use in landscape when using the reader so you can fit more on the page.

if you load the link you will notice it directly loads a streaming radio station. I want to make it so i can push the PTT button and have the station start streaming.

I've been looking around for a better video player for a while now, but can't find one for the Tilt that will play movies and videos smoothly. I have TCMP, WMP10 (obviously), and the Conduits Pocket Player. I've tried a few others, too. I don't mind paying $20 for a good one, but every one I've tried is jumpy and underruns the buffer. Audio is good, but it can't seem to keep up with the video. On my phone I still have over 30MB of storage (I have the media players stored on the phone's memory, and am playing videos off of my SD card) and over 50MB of free RAM. I use Core player, It is the retail version of TCPMP (its worth the cash IMO). To play videos smoothly ensure the Video output preference is set to "Raw FrameBuffer". I do not have TCPMP installed right now to tell you exactly where in the application to go to change this but I remember it made all the difference.

I am not familiar with the Jabra 250v or the particular issue you are having. I use a Motorola S9. However you might want to try tinkering with the settings for your bluetooth device. Goto Start/Connection/Bluetooth and check/uncheck the 'Wireless Stereo' box for your device.

Not an accident - I think you might need MS Voice Command - which btw is the single KEY reason why I did not buy an i-phone (battery and no 3g being the other 2) instead.
I can make my non-stereo bt500 work by playing music in mortplayer or vids in tcpmp and clicking once on the button.

I couldn't find the post to quote from but I am having the same issue as the person who posted this.

Sometimes after I end a phone call and hit the red key. It takes me back to the Today screen like it should. The problem is, it still shows "Phone" at the top and I cant hit the Start Menu. I can pretty much do anything else except pull down the Start Menu. To remedy this I have to put the phone to sleep using the power button and then wake it back up. After I do that the phone is back to normal.

The other poster was relating this problem with the backlight being dim also. Mine was doing that also, but that all has to do with how you have your backlight settings set.

So that is 2 with this issue, there must be something going on.

I installed the 10 button comm manager that lets you turn 3G on and off.

Anyone else have this problem?

Am I the only person whose 10 button comm manager doens't work with the direction pad? I have to use the touch sreen to get it to work. No big deal but I was wondering if this is how it works for everyone

It's not an issue of unlimited internet or not. If you're in a spotty 3g area (ie sometimes you get it sometimes you don't) 3g will burn up a lot of battery trying to switch over back and forth. So people who don't need 3g most of the time (ie all of us) just switch to edge only so that they get longer battery life and when they go to browse or use any high bandwidth app they turn on 3g manually.

I've noticed that everytime the screen blacks out my WIFI connections is turned off, b/c when i turn the screen back on i see the wifi connecting again. Anyway to make it so the WIFI stays on if the screen is off?

Yeah, I'm the idiot. I saw a few articles about it on gizmodo and other sites, but gave up on installing it after an hour...once I realized I was actually trying to install Windows Device Manager 6.1. Stupid me...WM 6.1 isn't out until February.

This is slightly off topic but I did install the kaisertweak and i'm wondering if it has something to do with it: Whenever I open my email the screen always positions down to about the middle of the message - this is very frustrating to have to scroll back to the top to read the beginning. Does anyone else's Tilt do this?? is it related to the tweak? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I had that problem, but of course I can't remember what I did to fix it.

Is it possible to have the Tilt on Vibrate mode and still have the stereo Bluetooth audio active? If I'm listening to my headphones, surely that means that I'm in a place where I don't want to have the phone ringing or alerts sounding off on the phone.

I'd like to have the phone in vibrate mode and all audio piped to my Jabra BT8010. However, when I move the volume sliders down and set it to "Vibrate", I lose headphone audio.....

If you do this you can still have the 3G button and have the use of the direction pad in the ten button comm manager. Only thing is the cool big buttons get replaced by the original ones

HKLM/Software/HTC/CommManager/ DisableButtonText

That's how it works for me. I think it's a comm manager ripped from the touch and so is on a system that is much more touch based. I have a better problem for you; when I am in a non-3g area if I don't have 3g disabled I don't get any service. Edge will work in both 3g and non-3g but 3g will only work at all in a 3g area (ie it won't step-down to edge automatically anymore). I could have sworn it used to work fine but I'm in edge only at home so I've had it on edge for a while and now I can't switch back to 3g enabled at all in non-3g areas.

It's not an issue of unlimited internet or not. If you're in a spotty 3g area (ie sometimes you get it sometimes you don't) 3g will burn up a lot of battery trying to switch over back and forth. So people who don't need 3g most of the time (ie all of us) just switch to edge only so that they get longer battery life and when they go to browse or use any high bandwidth app they turn on 3g manually.

I hope this question hasn't been posted before and that the way I phrase it makes sense.

When I open a text message, the screen automatically is scrolled all the to the bottom. It is annoying to always have to scroll up to see your text, who it was from, the time, etc. as opposed to the text opening the way everything else opens, with the screen scrolled up to the top.

Does anyone have this problem or a potential solutions?

i assume you are using the SPB plugin? go in to your plug-in options go to, select the tab you want to put it in, choose plug-ins on the right had side and check the messaging plug in

ok, i have a HUGE problem, i can receive but cant send sms messages from my TILT, and its starting to agravate me cus i have looked in every folder in my device to see if there is a file that i accidentally deleted and now my txt mssages wont go out

so I go to Messaging folder, then go to menu and try doing a New Message
when i do new txt message the screen comes up and it says the normal:

From:____________
To:____________
___________________________

when i tap or click on menu to add new recipient, the new recipient option is not highlighted, in another words cant be used the rest of the options below:

Add Recipient... (Not highlighted)
Check Names (highlited)
Insert...(Not Highlited)
My text (highlited)
save to drafts (H)
spell check(H)
_____________
Cancel Message (H)
Message Options (NOT H)

so when i tap on the message on the from: To: specially when i do To: IE comes up and tells me
This URL is not properly formatted. Please Verify that you have entered the address correctly..

DO NOT know what to do, someone PLS HELP!!!!!

There was no PTTService shortcut in \Windows\startup for me. I did everything else, but the button still works as PTT. Any ideas?

I've been getting a little frustrated lately trying to download attachments to emails that are bigger than about a Meg. It seems everytime I try to, I get a message saying "The file is too big". I'm using Windows Live Messenger to access my Hotmail account. Has anyone found a way around this?

This happened to me when I installed the HTC Keyboard/Keypad. I uninstalled and the problem went away. Too bad cause that new SIP keyboard looked cool

Hopefully you all can help me out. I'm about to buy the Tilt and had a few last minute questions:

1. I'm not getting a data plan for a few months, and I was wondering how the WiFi works? Does it take priority over AT&T's 3G network if you're in range of one or as long as you manually connect? I don't want to end up paying for kb of data...
2. I want to use the GPS, but don't want to pay $10/mo for it. If I get the TomTom or iNav maps, and load it onto a SD card, I can just put it in the Tilt and use the GPS for free without connecting to the Internet, right?

andyjaffe: Correct on point 2, I have my Tilt set up with TomTom and don't need data unless I want to use some advanced services, like real-time traffic. I don't know much about your first question.

I would just turn off the AT&T data network if that's the case. Then there's no chance of it downloading data over it. Also if you do want to download something over the AT&T network for whatever reason (no wifi have to look something up immediately) you can always turn it on just for that session.

The Tilt GPS is not locked to any program. TomTom, Inav, GoogleMaps, Live Search, etc all can use the GPS without any problems.

1. I use only WiFi with my Tilt. I did turn off my ATT data connection as suggested by erikk. It is handy to have peekpocket to know what WiFi is available when you're away from your own Wireless network. I have had to do some soft resets to re-acquire the WiFi (I think it happens when I leave my WiFi active, move outside my Wireless network range, and then reenter the zone.)

I know on ATT on my account on view data usage it says there all the times i connect to the internet and the usage of KB everytime... is there a way to see what pages to browse i mean like a history that AT&T follows just like your PPC does, i was wondering cus my underage boy was just
