that uses mms and i would never suggest anyone use one of these sites due to spam. it might be free but the tos says they can change thier terms at anytime which means this could be a harvester

gmail works on my tilt. i think what you need to do is set it up as imap instead of pop. go into your gmail account and allow imap for all mail. then when you do it on your phone do your settings manually as imap and your settings can be found on gmail something like the smtp and mail thing.

Ive have scanned through the entire thread and read most of it. I have not seen anyone answer this.

How can I assign the HTC audio manager to the HTC today screen So when I click Launch Music Player it open the HTC audio manager instead of WMP?

I tried looking around in the registry but damned if I can make heads or tails.


EDIT: Got it with the HTC Home Customizer.


My other issue is no matter how I try to adjust the weather settings I cannot get the city I live in to work

I tried editing the settings in the reg for \\HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCHome\Weather\Settings

you should check out XDA forums, they have a plugin for the htc audio manager that goes on your today screen, that way when you click on it, it doesnt take you to WM player.. hope that helps a little, i dont have a direct link but im sure u can find it.

There are some programs that will do something similar. You can send a specially formatted text message to receive the GPS coordinates via a text message. Though, the phone does need to be able to get a GPS fix. Indoors, in parking structures, obstructed with large buildings around, etc will make it much more difficult.

There is Handango's Vito Findme i guess by sending an sms you can get someones location, anyways here is the site in case you want it its a free download.

ok, got my tilt today and need some help please!!! I installed Kaiser tweek and when I make changes they dont change, I click the drop down and click what I want and it goes back to what was there, doesnt even change...

Also, I have downloaded PHM regedit and I have it on my computer desktop, when I run it it opens active sync like it is going to install it on my tilt, but PHM does not show up on the list of programs that activesync is trying to install, please help me.....thanks!

Move PHM to the titl and run it from there. Soft reset your phone to take changes on some tweaks since they might be making registry changes.

I tried that and I get this error:

" there is no application associated with "phmrededit" run the app first then open the file within the app"


also have one more question......how do you hide th sim contacts so that you dont have duplicated contacts in your list?

also when I change the audio player on the today screen from windows media to the HTC player and then try to click play it says that "AUDIOMANAGER can not be opened"

I get that audio manager message too. So I just use the cube. Or put in the start menu, and launch it from there.

Once it's running, the controls on the today screen work. It just won't launch it.

To locate Internet Sharing:

Go to Start>Programs>Tools>File Explorer.
Open the Windows Folder.
Scroll down until you locate Internet Sharing.
To add a shortcut to an existing folder on your device:

Tap and Hold on Internet Sharing and select Copy from the pop up menu.
Navigate to a folder where you would like to put your shortcut and select Menu>Edit>Paste. I placed it in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Tools.
To use Internet Sharing:

Pair your device with your PC (Bluetooth or USB).
Locate the Internet Sharing shortcut you created and tap on it to open the application.
Select USB or Bluetooth from the PC Connection type drop down (depending on your needs, obviously).
Select MEdiaNet from the Network Connection drop down.
Tap on Connect.

I have had my tilt since Oct. but barely loading on music. I can't find any way to search my music by artist. In my "Library" the music is arranged alphabetically by artist but there is no artist listing. Does Media Player not show artists???? Is there a better media player out there? I have not done ANY tweaks (am too chicken) so please I need SIMPLE!

Not sure what's happening with yours but I just drop the files into 'My Music' on the storage card and viola. When I launch the player, my Library opens and I have the following listed: My Music, My Videos, My TV, and My playlist. Under 'My Music' I have a Artist, Album , and Genre lists.

Now here is the problem that I think 'Tilted Angel' is referencing, the music files are sorted by the metadata of the file itself. So, if you downloaded some music from Napster or the likes, it is very likely the data is all over the place and this will cause a major clusterf$%k when trying to sort. For instance, I downloaded about 5 songs from one CD off the net and the player sorts this under 4 different artist, or 3 different albums, and two genre's. All because of the meta data.

Of course burning your own CD will put everything nice and neat with One artist, One album, and One genre. So long story short, if you care about the clutter you will need to take the time to edit the info for every song that didn't come from a CD. Needless to say I abandoned all that and just drop songs on the thing and be done with it.

One last option is to make playlist (never tried so I can't really comment) and that should play all the songs in that list. Could help out some...

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply to my question. Obviously my question was not worded well, so the answer was not to what I am asking.
When I go to my media player and go to library then to now playing I get my whole list of songs. They are in alphabetical order by album (but name of album not shown on screen) but the artist is not shown anywhere on the screen. I am wondering if there is something that I AM NOT doing that I don't get artists shown on the screen or any way to search for songs by artist. Most of my songs are loaded on from commercial cds. I have not even attempted to load or watch a video....

So I am wondering if someone could help me navigate my Windows media player OR recommend a player that would give me an option to sort not only by album (as it is now) but by artist or genre.

Hello, Im sorry if this question has been asked elsewhere but i couldnt find it anywhere.
I had my Tilt it on landscape mode and i was about to send a text message, then when i openned the slide keyboard, it got hunged, like frozen, i try to exit the page and nothing, also when i open the keyboard again the keyboard wont light up, its still hunged with the 2 types of screen, protrait and landscape, and dunno what should i do.. i cant remove the battery side im afraid i can break it, and have no other ph to call at&t what should i do??? It wont restart whatsoever i would keep the button pressed for it to give me the warning if i want to restart, but it wont show, could i try opening the back and remove the battery that way to get it to start again??? or is it a bad idea...??? please HELP

OK, gotcha now...

Instead of going to 'now playing', goto 'my music' from . There you should have All music, Artist, Album, and genre. Clicking on the appropiate one should have your files sorted accordingly.

Tell me how this works...!!

Hey guys, looking for a little help. I had a hundred or so pics and some videos on my Tilt...think they were being stored on the phone's memory, but not positive. I had installed a 4gb Micro SD card, but hadn't changed any of the settings. Then I was in the camera screen and changed the storage location to the SD card and took a couple pictures. Now when I try and look at my pics I don't see any of my old ones. My today screen background is still one of my old pics, so I'm wondering if they got moved somewhere? I've looked through most of the folders but can't seem to find them. Any ideas?

For those experiencing the issue with a quickly depleted battery, I have to suggest the BandSwitch application. I use this app to force my band to Edge when I am not surfing. I am now able get through 24hours without having to charge.
'Take control of your connections: Switch between 2G-3G Enable and disable connections. Disabling connections makes it imposible to use them so you know they wont generate traffic data. Establish and close connections. Set a time frame where connections wont be allowed (ie, when you are sleeping) saving money and battery. Turn off/on Bluetooth and Wifi with or without time limit. When the limit expires then it is set to off state'

As an indoor camera it's sub par, certainly w/o any built in flash. Especially in typical room lighting. Outdoors I've had better luck though. You really have to rig up a DIY tripod to avoid the fuzzy shots I get as well. Perhaps some sort of clip to attach to a tripod extension(?) It's a camera of last resort, basically.

How to Stop Lag in Camera Video ***

All you have to do is to turn on camera,
then press power button to suspend device. (Like shut it how normaly we do when we press power Button)
Wait 3 seconds at least then mask (cover the Lense)the camera with your hand and wake the device up.
When you move your hand out, you'll see that the fps has increased a lot because the shutter speed is faster (but the image is darker as well).
If you point at a bright source however, it will try to correct the light and unfix the fps...

Unfortunately you have to do it everytime you turn the camera on to make Videos

1. In the messaging app, go to Menu-Tools-Options, then on the Message tab. Uncheck the box that says "Warn when deleting messages in the message list."

2. Go to Start-Settings-Sounds & Notifications. Go to the Notifications tab, and select "Connection Established" from the drop-down list. Uncheck the box that says "Display message on screen".

Go to Start/ Settings/ Today(the Home Icon)/ Items/ HTC HomePlug (Uncheck it)

Just downloaded bandswitch...my battery life has not been great so hoping this helps. Stupid question...what is the proper way to force 2G using this program? I've been able to get my phone to display G, H, and E by pressing the GSM button, but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be doing. Thanks.

Put all ur Ringtones
on ur SD Card in My Documents / My Ringtones
that should do it

hello guys ive been having a problem with my tilt and the internet sometimes when i go on the net the opening page (when i 1st hit the net botton) the page wont load and if i type in a addy it wont load either but if i shut off the phone and turn it right back on everthing works fine.

also does any one know where i can get some backgrounds or themes from (normal ones not the htc stuff)

I've had the same issue. Not sure why it happens, but like in your case a reset solves the problem. Annoying to have to wait a minute for the phone to reboot though.

I had the same problem with my blackjack and still have it with my tilt....easy fix:

Close IE.....Goto wireless manager.....goto airplane mode.....go back to phone mode....and your good to go

In otherwords, it's an IE issue, not a phone issue. I've had the same thing happen. Also happens sometimes on Live search when looking at traffic. I sometimes have to stop the program, and start it again for the page to show up.
frustrating, but that is the life of mobile IE!!!

quick tilt question....i got mine about a week ago and have it synced up with an exchange server that pushes a policy to it. the problem is the policy makes the phone need to be unlocked after 15 minutes which is a pain when using gps....is there reg hacks to get around the phone locking?

when there is poor signal and I turn off the phone it won't ever pick up the signal again but other phones will. how many bars does the tilt have for full signal 4 or 5 with dot under the antenna included thanks? why does active sync randomly show in my task menu? I never synced my phone but almost did and stopped while conected because desktop was not my computer and outlook had password

I use a little program called Zenyee StayUnlock. It installs into your Startup folder. It works great for me.

Also i have a Question, i dont know if any of you use your JAVA well i do a lot, the thing is that i use it to read with the wattpad reader, now i was wondering since i have to re-do my Tilt, is there anyway that i can back up all my java files that are in to my Java, i mean i click Java and all the utilities for Java on its main page come up along with Opera mini on it, but how do i make a back up for all this files???? is there an specific folder on my program files or somewhere else on the phone to look for them... PLEASE help, i have so many Java stuff in to it and dont want to loose it all, Thanks.

I made a Sprite backup on my Tilt before upgrading my ROM to the latest official AT&T ROM, but now I can't restore the backup. Sprite doesn't see it even though the file is there. It has an extension of 9db98163.menc when I look at it from Active Sync. Changing the extension doesn't help.

You have to save it on SD Card 1st then copy it
on to ur PC

I did an Sprite Backup and its saved in to my pc now, also I've been doing a backup with SPB Backup since around 5:30...talk about taking a long time, just now its half way and its 10 to 10 pm (FL time)

i was wondering,, would this type of back ups do a complete backup for both Storage card and main drive on device??? i know it would be on storage card but i meant both things on the MicroSD card... see im switching to an 8Gb Micro sd class 4 from a 4 Gb one hopefully i get to keep all my java files the rest doesnt really matter since i have a folder saved in to my pc for my Tilt files, i just dont know how to back up just my Javas.

Ok, so the back ups are done, i did one just for the storgae card (the 4gb one) and i was wondering, how do i transfer all files to the new one... i tried doing copy pasting from a flash drive the 4gb one to the tilts storage the 8gb one, the thing is since most of my programs are installed in the 4gb storage card, wouldnt let me copy them to the new one, so i wanted to run the back ups but in order for me to do that i have to redo the whole system, how can i restore all microsd card files in to the new card, without having to do full reset to the device???? or wpuld i need to re-instal each program one by one???? sorry if this has been asked before, i,m new to this but any help is always highly appreciated. Just put the New 8gb Card & make a Backup on it
& if you have Songs or Videos, just copy paste it on new card from old

Unfortunately, I've tried several and Phoneweaver is one of the best.
There's Phonealarm. It's the most popular application out there for profiles. However, Phonealarm does all sorts of stuff I'm just not interested in, that's why I stick with Phoneweaver.
I agree, it doesn't always work right. But it seems to get better with every new version they release.

your right i tried phonealarm and it does way more bs then i needed to, i suppose i'll just break down and buy a copy of phone weaver b/c it seems to fit the bill the best

Not yet, but WM 6.1 has been released, so the carriers probably have it. They will have to test it, add their touches, etc. first, so it could be a bit before it shows up on the AT&T and HTC web sites for download.

ok so i called AT&T and they said i can do the update to the software thru windows mobile's site and i would have no problems regarding to my account cus i supposed to get a rebate soon so i was worried that by doing the update to the software but not thru AT&T i was going to have a problem, aparently there is no problem and the CSR i spoke to said that this new update is supposed to help as well with the battery life, hopefully is true because even tho i installed lots of tweaks my battery life its very horribly cra ppy anyways hope this helps to whoever was wondering the same as i was.

well i tried to do the update but it didnt work, aparently i have to remove the old version of WM6 first, and i dont know if its a good thing to do... besides i have no idea how to do it, is there another way that this could work just as an update without having to remove the oldest version????

They said in February that drivers were coming at the end of March. It's the end of April. Still no progress has been made yet. There is currently a $7800 reward on XDA-Developers for the person who makes a driver.

Ok so im veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery stupid and lost my Tilts battery @ my husbands Graduation event in Univeral Orlando, i called AT&T and they said that my warranty doesnt cover stolen or lost batteries so the girl said if i call in saying that if i call htc and ay that my battery went bad they will replace it and mail it to me but they ask what color are certain colors of the battery that tells you it is in fact bad, and they also dont need for you to send it in that putting it in the trash is ok, so i was wondering should i just call HTC and say this about the bad battery story but if they ask what colors the bad battery are what do i say?
or should i just buy one from ebay and if i do which one should i get any suggestions?

BTW sorry if this has been asked before, but i will appreciate any help, Thanks in Advance.

i have had the tilt since the first day when it was released by at&t and i put some software on it like the Htc home screen and opera mini, but recently it has been running slow. Like sometimes it takes time when i press something on the screen it will take a few seconds if not longer for it to load. has anyone had anything similar?

Yes, I have, but it's generally not a speedy device by anyone's definition. You might try either upgrading to the latest ATT (official) ROM, or, if you get brave, flash the device to one of the more reliable non-official ROMs out there. In general, with Windows (all versions) if you load a lot of third party software it tends to bog down the system. FWIW, it helps to know what's processes running in the background can be removed safely, whether it be Vista, XP or WM Mobile. For example, with Vista I used the following sites to speed up performance:

There may be something posted over at XDA regarding speeding up your Tilt other than flashing to another ROM.

its called threaded sms and the treo does it too. wm 6.1 pro does it i believe and i think there is a prog you can get for whatever version wm the Tilt has to add threades sms (text messaging)

You can load a cooked rom from xda-developers that will upgrade your phone to WM6.1. 6.1 has threaded SMS/MMS built-in.

I keep getting a msg saying the phone is low on memory so I should delete old or unused stuff. is it mostly email causing this or is there somewhere in the menus I can go to delete temp files, browsing cache and other uneeded stuff that may be taking up space?

there's really no link. Incongito comes in, drops in the latest AT&T ro mthat the testers are experimenting with and the Cooks have a go @ it. So while there isn't anything official leaked or available perse, it should be around the corner and from what I'm seeing, kyphur, slueth make some great at&t based roms and laurentius used the lastest at&t tested rom for his Diamond V9 ROM. he did rip out most of the at&t stuff buit most of it can be put back on. I usually don't provide links to xda on the grounds that people won't read the wiki and then mess up their phones. as a former at&t rep, trust me, it happened alot and I cover my own culo. as a matter of fact, this girl I'm dating had a customer who was reading up on XDA for 2 weeks and STILL bricked his phone. you can never be too careful.

So as for my recommendation, try laurentius Rom and see how you like it. Read the wiki, take everything step by step and you'll be fine.

Definitely read the XDA Wiki thoroughly. When you are ready I would recommend the June 24 HyperDragon IIIs rom. I have tried them all and this was the most reliable on my Tilt.

hey guys i know this post shouldn't go here and sorry for posting but im desperate!!!!
we had a tornado the wiped out our entire farm house and everything else, our jeep landed on our cougar, etc.... anyways the thing is my Til;t flew, it got broken on the frame or casing... no battery, thank goodness i have extra batteries and styluses, the thing is that even tho i have the extras, my phone now wont recognize the sim card so i need to replace it, i was i'm sorry for been disloyal but i even thought i would replace it with the new iPhone 3G, but im so turned off by the lack of its features that im used to work with on my tilt during my daily basis!
Nope, i don't qualify for an upgrade, i've only had my tilt for a few months so i have to replace it, with any phone i have 200 bucks but cant buy a new one from AT&T or it'll be 549 bucks no commitment (again dont qualify for upgrade)
does anyone knows if any one has a Tilt refurbished for sale? i d ont want ebay as an option either, cant trust that ppl.

Cant help you but just wanted to say that i am sorry to hear about what happened to you and your family. sounds like everyone escaped injury which is the important thing.

I just checked the premiere site (Business web store) and refurbs usually show up on there. I don't see any Tilt refurbs. I would just call AT&T and ask them if refurbs are available and if there is one for the Tilt. I think that's your best bet.

I'm curious what is keeping you from the iPhone. I personally am making the switch to the iPhone 3g now that it has 3G, Activesync, and an SDK for app developers. Those were my 3 main things. But I found that 95% of what I do on my Tilt I can do as well or better on the iPhone. Well except tether, so I'll keep my WM PDA around for that.

Well to be honest one of the reasons is my husband is mad for not saying Jealous if i get the iPhone, but also is that i mainly use Java A LOT on my old broken tilt (and the iphone doesnt have it or you ca not add it), and i dont know how i will personally do with the iPhone, i mean dont get me wrong i heard is an awesome phone but im so used to my Tilt and besides it would make it lots easier with my jealous husband, but as far as i see, everything points towards getting the iPhone, although im not comfortable with not knowing if im making the right choice to replace my tilt with an iPhone, again i love my tilt but there is just no way i can afford a refurbished with no commitment since i dont qualify for an upgrade yet so the no commitment price will be 549, and almost every store i've callled said that refurb. tilts are only available online..... any advice??

I'd call customer service and explain your situation, especially if you have been a long time customer. They may make an exception for extraordinary circumstances. If your billing address is in an area hit by a tornado it should be easy enough for them to verify that you are telling the truth.

I had an 8525 screen break several months ago. I wasn't eligible for a new phone at the time. I explained the situation to a phone rep and they were able to do some sort ef exception processing and I got a Tilt. They won't let you do this many times, but sometimes there are extenuating circumstances, like yours, and they have procedures to deal with them. I've been with AT&T for over 10 years so that may have helped too.

By the way, after the phone rep approved this, I went to one local company store to pick up the phone (I hard an international trip a couple of days later) and the store manager refused to help me even though they had the phone in stock. She had some lame excuse about processing an order for a new phone for the lower price and her district manager getting upset. There was another company store within half a mile. They didn't have the phone in stock, but the manager was more creative. She suggested buying a different phone and going back to the other store to exchange it for the Tilt. That worked. They were willing to do an exchange but not process a new order. The store that refused to be helpful is now no longer in business!

My point is, different stores have different attitudes. If one is not helpful, take your business elsewhere. The store itself might not be able to help with getting the special price, so call 611 to get things straightened out before you visit the store.

The only choice left here was to add a line and get the tilt for the 149.99, tho even doing that i have to commit to stay on that new lines number for 6 months with unlimited data and telenav, it doesnt give me a choice for insurance and it only gives me 90 days warranty for the refurbished so i guess iPhone it is, im gonna miss you all guys, i hate to do this but i cant afford to get the Tilt hopefully when the touch pro comes out in nov i can get that, although it doesnt have GPS will do with just that i guess.

Just download the HTC Home plugin & HTC Home Customizer. It will brighten up your 'stock' appearance.

There's a lot more embedded in this thread if you read through it. XDA forum is also useful for the various modifications. HTC Home Customizer/HTC Home plugin may be downloaded here:

I looked at that site and I wouldn't trust any site that can't spell correctly or write a complete and understandable paragraph! Looks like a scam to me, but hey, what do I know!

Anyway, does anyone know how I can get the video from my Tilt to show on my Pioneer AVIC-D3 display? I have my Slingbox setup and working on my Tilt and I can get the audio to play through the Bluetooth to the receiver, but I don't see a way to get the video to transfer over. Maybe a wired connection to the Aux Video Input jack?

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Really, XDA forum is the proper places to find this type of thing. They have sliced and diced the HTC hardware every which way imaginable(!)

I use the HTC Streaming Media App I learned about @ XDA. You can learn more here-

vTap also works, but I don't care for it. I tried the suggested TCMP (Core player)/flash bundle but youtube would not load for me that way ;(. Mobile youtube (m.youtube.com) worked part of the time until I learned about the HTC Streaming App.

Thanks for posting this. I'm sick of my default Tilt home screen. I just downloaded the HTC Home Plugin v2.1 file, but I'm not sure how to install it. Sorry about my stupidity in this area, but any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated!

Do I just put the cab file in my tilt and then run it from there?

Never mind my previous post...figured it all out.

What I'd really like now is WM6.1. When will AT&T make this available to us?

I don't think they're in any rush to provide us with this. I am betting one of the cooked ROMs are likely to provided more bang for the buck at this point.

Im sure this will never be answered in this MAMMOTH thread but I hate posting a new thread to ask this.

I have been having this issue with the new txt message received sound.
It just randomly turns it self off for no reason. ive looked around and havent seen anyone else bring it up.

I cant imagine im the only person with this problem.

Theres a funtion in Htc Touch & Samsung Omnia
when the phones ringing & you just flip it over & it becomes silent

Will the At&t Tilt be able to do that after it get the upgrade to 6.1 ?

My guess is no. I doubt the tilt has the sensor built into it that can tell the orientation of the phone just by flipping it over.

I am, does it have something to do with that? Cause Ill go days without using the browser but the TXT sound still goes away.

EDIT: Oh ****. I just tested it and that is definetly whats doing it, I guess I just never noticed the connection. Now, how to fix it?

I just installed the newest version (same name newer file) that seems to address the issue.

I have the att tilt. It suddenly started getting buggy. I am using exchange server. it has never been a problem. suddenly, i have been having some issues. The phone is receiving emails no problem. However, when i send the email, the email sends but the phone locks up. Anyone heard about that?
