I heard insurance on the Tilt doesn't exist from ATT?

I was looking at Squaretrade insurance, anyone tried filing a claim with them before? Warranty coverage for a purchase price of $799 for 3 yrs is only $80, 5-day service, no deductable. That's better than any cellular carrier insurance plan which would be around 5-10/mo if available. adding accidental damage is +$120 for 3 yrs with $50 deductable. if they can't fix it, they'll reimburse you the full amount covered.

any thoughts? the accidental damage is really worth it, seeing how if you accidentally break your phone 2-3 yrs later, and they reimburse you $799... it'll be time to shop for a new updated phone anyways...

yeh ive been debating this too but mannnn..... i dont need coverage for 3 years, and $200 for both coverages is steep. the tilt's only costing me 299 plus $100 mail ins= 199. thats more in insurance than the price of the phone paid. and ive never once used my insurance through my carrier the past 5+ years at $7 a month. im hesitant to waste anymore money insuring when im careful with my phones.

but of course its always nice to have u never know......

anyone else know any cheaper ways to insure and not 3 years but on a month 2 month basis?

i'm also very interested in this, im younger and party quite often and find myself in situations where phones are easily stollen or simply lost. of course an easy solution is to just leave it in the car, but who really just wants to leave their phone in the car and have to check it every once in a while? any good insurance companys for phones would be very helpful.

Hello,

My name's Kord, and for the sake of full disclosure: I work for SquareTrade - I'm the Customer Experience Manager.

I'd just like to clarify that, with any SquareTrade Care Plan, you can cancel at any time and get a pro-rated refund. If you cancel in the first 60 days, you can get a full 100% refund.

Klurfdawg, if your phone originally cost $299, your 3 year warranty would cost $29.99 -- or $74.99 with Accidental Damage - the price of the Care Plan scales with the price of your item.

As you both have pointed out, the insurance on your phone, at $7 / year, adds up to $84 per year. Most cell phone insurance plans have the same deductible as SquareTrade ($50) on accidental damage claims.

If you have any concerns about our claim process, you can read consumer reviews on Amazon - search for SquareTrade Warranties.

If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a line at kordhelps@squaretrade.com.

$199 after rebates for the tilt? I havent seen anyone else mention this price. Are you sure about that?

I just ordered mine for $399, and it will be $299 after the 2 rebates. Thats the price I've seen most everyone mention.

Kord,

Could you give a quick quote for the AT&T Tilt, based on the 2 year AT&T contract price ($400) and for the no contract price ($550).

I think this would be helpful for all, and give us a reference to look at instead of answering the same question many times over.

Posted by: SquareTradeKord

Hello Hockey37,

Our coverage price is a percentage of the item purchase price.

At this time, the base Care Plan for retail items is priced at 10% of the item purchase price (what you paid for the item at the register - does not include rebates).

Example:

Based on an aproximate price of $499.00, the base product Care Plan (extended warranty) would be priced at $49.90.

The cost for ADP (Accidental Damage Protection) would be offered for an additional 15% of the item purchase price.

Example:

Using the aproximate item purchase price of $499.99, ADP coverage would be available for $74.85

To summarize: Care Plan coverage + ADP will be priced at a total of 25% of the item purchase price.

Make sense?

Can this be purchased at any time, or must it be within a certain time from from purchase of the phone?

Any options other than a 3 year warranty? Maybe a 2 year perhaps?

What is required at time of sign up? Copies of UPC and receipt I take it?

What payment options do you take; CC, Paypal, etc.?

Posted by: SquareTradeKord

Hello again,

Below you'll find answers to your questions:

Q: Can this be purchased at any time, or must it be within a certain time from from purchase of the phone?

A: We currently have a promotion offering SquareTrade Care Plans for any eligible item purchased in 2007 (must be new, purchased from a recognized retailer - not eBay).

HOWEVER,

ADP coverage is only available for 30 days beginning on the date of item purchase. So, for the the sake of this discussion, you'll need to secure your coverage within 30 days of purchasing your item to ensure you have ADP offered as a purchase option.

Q: Any options other than a 3 year warranty? Maybe a 2 year perhaps?

A: At this time we offer 3 year coverage for new, retail items.

Q: What is required at time of sign up? Copies of UPC and receipt I take it?

A: At the time or Care Plan purchase, no documentation is required. Should a claim be filed we'll request a copy of your item purchase receipt.

Q: What payment options do you take; CC, Paypal, etc.?

A: We accept PayPal, Visa, MC and AMEX.

Hope the above helps.

Is it possible to get the Care Plan and ADP based on the full AT&T retail price ($550) instead of what we actually paid?

The reason I ask is that if I drop my Tilt in the toilet next week, and get a reimbursement for the price I paid ($300), I will not be able to replace my phone for that price because it was the 2-year contract pricing. I'll have to pay full price. Granted I'll have $300 to put towards the full price of the phone, but the point is it will not replace it for me. This is different than what we get from the wireless carries that do offer insurance on their high end phones (at least with VZW TEC).

Also, is it possible to just get ADP since these phones already have a 1 year warranty?

Hello,

Kord here. Customer Experience Manager for SquareTrade.

RE: ADP

Unfortunately, at this time, ADP is considered an "add-on" to our base product, the SquareTrade Care Plan (extended warranty). We're not currently offering ADP as a stand-alone purchase.

RE: Pricing

At this time, our pricing is based on the "at-register" purchase amount. Should a claim be filed on an item under coverage, we'll request a copy of the register purchase receipt to determine the purchase value of the item.

Hope this addresses your questions.

Regards,

Kord

Hey STK: I bought a RIZR on ebay and I found out today that I have no manufacturer's warranty since the phone is made to be used in singapore. I am worried that the slider will become loose. Is that covered under ADP plan? And what about the white screen issue that is prevalent among motorola phones?

Thanks. Glad to have an expert around.

where do you live? if you are near a Best Buy Mobile buy your Tilt there where they offer a monthly accidental damage service plan on all phones including the Tilt

Posted by: SquareTradeKord

Hello extremepain,

SquareTradeKord here.

In short, yes, we do cover unlocked and International/grey market cell phones. So, your warranty is still valid. However...

For grey market phones, we offer a single year of coverage (as opposed to 2 years of coverage for new cell phones with an existing manufacturer warranty of at least 90 days).

In addition, this coverage comes with a 60 day exclusionary period beginning from the date of item purchase. Issues affecting the functionality of the item during the exclusionary period are considered "pre-existing" and are not covered under the plan. In the event that a claim is filed for a pre-existing condition we will offer cancellation of the warranty and a full refund of the warranty purchase price.

For issues affecting the item beyond the exclusionary period (day 61 through the remainder of the year long coverage) a claim would need to be filed and would be reviewed to confirm that the reported issue was one covered under the Care Plan.

RE: Sliding functionality and ADH

As a result of normal wear and tear - yes, this issue would be covered under the basic SquareTrade Care Plan. It's important to note that we do have a 60 day exclusionary period so we would only accept the claim if filed after the exclusionary period has expired.

If the issue were reported within the exclusionary period, we would not cover the issue and would instead characterize the issue as "pre-existing" in which case we would advise that the issue is one to be addressed with the seller of the item and/or your credit card company if the seller is non-responsive.

In the event of the pre-existing condition we offer cancellation and a full refund of the warranty purchase price.

As a result of accidental damage - Yes, this would be covered following the 30 day exclusionary period associated with this add-on coverage. Now, ADP isn't magic - it does not cover issues resulting from neglect or misuse of an item.

RE: White screen

I spoke the head of our Claims Department who advised me that the cause of this issue (in his experience) can be one of two things:

1) The result of a virus - in which case we would not cover the issue. The Care Plan does not provide coverage for software issues. For this scenario, we would offer cancellation of the warranty and a full refund of the warranty purchase price.

2) Mechanical failure - apparently there is a thin cable that runs the length of the phone that if disconnected could also cause the dreaded "white screen" - in this scenario the Care Plan would provide coverage (again, assuming that the reported issue did not begin during the 60 day exclusionary period.).

Clear as mud?

Let me know if I can provide any more assistance.

Kord, how do I get this insurance on my phone? I just bought my Moto Q Global direct from an AT&T Store this past Sunday.

Is there a number I call or via a website?

Thanks,
Maria

I am interested in getting insurance on my Tilt as well. Please post a website address or contact information.

Thanks!

Hello,

You can purchase your warranty here:

http://www.squaretrade.com/pages/warranty-buy-now

For non-eBay items, you'll want to use the "Item Bought From a Store" option.

To be eligible you item must have been purchased within the last 30 days.

I'd also suggest that before purchasing you read our "SquareTrade Service Summary" and/or the actual Service Agreement (just scroll down on the same page) here:

http://www.squaretrade.com/htm/pop/...leWarranty.html

Hope that helps.

Let me know if you have any more questions.
