Smartphone Vs PPC

So I have been using this HTC s630. There are a few things I like about it better then WM6 Pro devices I have been using.

1. The screen. The fact that you can see everything on the screen, even in direct sunlight in amazing. I forgot what its like to see a phone's screen in the summer.

2. Screen turns off when playing music. Now I don't know if some of the newer PPC's do this, but I don't remember any of mine doing it; when playing music in WMp or HTC's audio manager, the screen turns off while music is playing so you save battery.

3. xml today screens. Man, designing your own homescreens is fun. There are tons of plug ins like WMP Player, quick launch icons, weather, etc.

4. Flush screens just look better. Besides the Touch/Nike/Polaris, every phone needs to have a flush screen.

Now I am not saying by any means that WM6 Standard is better then WM6 Pro, but these are the few things that I like.

My biggest issue is with web pages. I miss a stylus, even though the JOGGR makes scrolling through pages fast. Also, I still going to tap icons on the screen and forget its not a touchscreen.

I've been tempted by that phone MANY times. I'd probably get the c730. And with it looking like the Sam i780 not coming here for awhile (if at all), and the HP 910 $800+, I'm even more tempted to pick up one of these...although it's hard to imagine not touching the screen.
My only problem is that I really need a functional remote desktop program for my work. Are there any that work well (or at all) with WM standard? If I could find a reasonable solution, I'd probably camp out with a smartphone for awhile since I don't see any other i780 type prospects on the near horizon.

The great thing about smartphone is everything can be done using one hand and it has shortcuts. On older PPC apps and some new ones, you still need to use the touchscreen. One thing you'll notice is that smartphone doesn't go to standby like PPCs when their screen goes out. For example, the Wifi connection can be left on.

I just bought my wife the S710 (VOX) and I worked on her homescreen almost the whole day Sunday. I cannot believe that Win Mo 6 Std does not have the ability to customize the home screen like the Pro version. I have the TyTN and not sure I want to downgrade to the Std version anytime soon.

You just need to learn to use XML. It's not as simple, but the homescreen designs can be amazing if you know how to do it.

This is true. Using xml I can make the homescreen basically the same as it ever was on any of my PPCs.

I am not disputing that and I think I created my wife a nice homescreen last week. But it took me one day to put it together (not knowing xml at all; knew a little html though). I just think the ease of creating homescreen in seconds is the big advantage of the PPCs

You can - there's a related thread at MoDaCo. (Dunno if MoDaCo can be linked from here - if it isn't, I paste the tutorial here.)

You can achieve the same on PPC's as well - just assign a hardware button to switch down the screen, select it from a menu or configure it to shut down the screen after X seconds. All advaced players support all these three funcitonalities; the built-in WMP only the first.

ppc does more. I mean for real apps the ppc is great, but if your just using phone, and i guess more basic apps the smartphone should be fine.

im still deciding to go with the MOgul or Touch. I get a new phone in december, and im not sure what im going to do yet. IF i were to get the touch, i would skin the hell out of it to get it like Iphone. IF i got the PPC, i would prob keep it the same, maybe give it a vista like rehaul, idk. But its a harddecision.

one real factor is that the touch will not have Wifi.

If anyone wants it, just let me know. I also made it in WM Green.

This is my homescreen right now. I do miss touchscreen more and more everyday and am going to pick up a new i-mate 6150, i-mate 8150 or HTC Polaris. Hopefully my boss will let me get a pre-production model.
