i-mobile 310 dropping network

Hello,
I just bought a new i-mobile 310 off of eBay. When I first insert a sim card and turn it on it sees my AT&T(Cingular) network (strong signal too) and I can even make a call but after about 30 seconds it drops the network and shows no service. I tried going to set the network manually and there are none to choose from.

If I swap sim cards with my other phone I have service again and if I quickly go to manual network I see two networks (ATT and TMobile) but again after being on for about 30 seconds they are gone.

It's almost as if it's switching off the 1900 mode and flipping to the 900/1800 mode.

Every time I switch my sims it let's me connect again for 30 seconds or so.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks!
Bill

BTW, In the add network settings there are a bunch of predefined networks (Cingular, AT&T mobility, USA-80, etc.) does anyone know what these do?

Also I tested just pulling the sim and reinserting the same one back into the phone and this also makes it work for the 20 to 30 seconds.

Does anyone know if GSM phones store network connection info on the sims? It's almost as though it reads some network info from a newly inserted sim and works but then reconfigures itself after a few minutes. Or maybe the phone is just defective... I hope not, from my little exposure to this phone I really like it!
