If anyone wants to use their 8830 as a tethered modem to a Powerbook, it is easier than you can believe. Basically, have the phone paired to the laptop, enter the seven digit code the laptop provides when it sees the phone, and follow the bluetooth setup instructions on screen. Enter the following info:username, which for Alltel is your 10 digit phone number @ alltel.net, the password which is alltel in lower case letters, and #777 for the dialup number. Even using Bluetooth, I am noticing pretty fast speeds. I am in the Tampa, FL area where EVDO is present, all bars.

Life is good.

Hmmmmm......I wonder how difficult it would be to do this with an 8320 and my Macbook?

Give it a try. It wasn't difficult at all with the 8830. It practically did everything itself without me. And I still have pretty fast speed compared to my broadband card. Just make sure the phone is set to Discoverable.

Does anybody know how to tether the MacBook via USB yet? I'm currently getting 500 dn / 300 up via BT and my 8830, still kinda slow on some sites.

Do you have a rough idea what speeds you are getting?

Macbook will be my next purchase..... HP just isn't aesthetically pleasing. haha.. but tethering with my 8320 is simple though slow. I'm used to tethering with my EVDO'd WM phone
