The Tilt comes with a custom HTC plug in on the today screen. The second icon on the right, you click on it, and it opens SMS in new message (authoring) mode. This today plugin also has a battery meter, shortcut to scree brightness, comm manager, and call history. All things that are really nice to have 1-touch access to. Otherwise to just get to the inbox: 1) Start 2) Messaging 3) Right click on the 5-way nav until you get to messaging. You're now at your inbox, you may have change folders if you're not already there. Also if you get a new SMS, you can click "reply" on the new message alert and it takes you right to replying to that SMS. Nothing beats the Treo 750 for SMS which is what I came from. Thankfully they made it pretty painless on the Tilt. |

EDIT: HOLY CRAP! You can. Just go to their contact information, scroll down to "Send Text Message", hit menu, then select "Add Speed Dial", and it allows you to add a speed dial entry that pops up a new SMS with their phone number already in it. |
