When you backup your contacts in moto phone tools where is it saved on your computer? also what type of file does it gat saved as?

It is saved in the MPT as a subfile with a .cvs ending. If you are loking for it try to find it by date and time stamp if you can remember it.

Under Vista it's located at C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\BVRP Software\Motorola Phone Tools\Backup\YourPhoneName

Under XP it is located in the same general area, but a couple of the folders are named a little differently; if you snoop around a little you should be able to find it. You will most likely have to show hidden files to see the folders - Tools menu, folder options, view, check show hidden files and folders.

CVS is a drugstore. CSV is a Comma Separated Value file

I did not find any CSV files in MPT; I found in the WinXP location cited above the BVRP folder with a nested MPT folder within whic were two "Contacts.mdb" files which appear to be small database type files. What's up with that? P2KTools saves my phone number files as CSV files.
