Have BlackBerry-Prefer BlackBerry Connect-Questions?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have a regular BB with no voice plan that is billed direct to my company....

My company does not allow using the phone portion of our BB's .

However, I replaced my separate phone with a TILT and added the BB Connect data plan (billed to me monthly and I expense it).

I had my IT folks do a password reset in order to do a new Enterprise Activation and used that on my TILT w/BB Connect and it worked flawlessly!

The standalone BB went dead as I expected though. So my question is.... There is no sense in billing my company for two data plans.

So, I would like to know what would happen if I cancel my old BlackBerry data plan?

In other words, would I still remain on my companies BES and be able to continue with the TILT, BB Connect and phone all in one?

There is no sense in having them pay for two data plans and only using one of them.

You may think... Why don't I ask them? Well, they would say "Keep using the standard BB and separate phone as we do not support the Tilt".

My gut tells me I would remain intact on our BES, but I don't know for sure.

When I initially set up my standalone BB, I had to do a separate IT request to be put on the BES and to get an Enterprise Activate password, that's why I think they will know what device I am using or even find out I canceled my BB standalone plan.

Thoughts???

Anybody have suggestions? Thanks

The real question is, why does your company do things that way? Probably a good reason behind it. Do they know and approve of your using the Tilt?

In many companies, if they provide a phone or BB or whatever, you are to use it as they gave it to you and for the reasons intended. Misuse or skirting the rules could be grounds for termination.

Just make sure you have approval to do what you are doing.

I know this didn't answer your question, but I thought a word of caution was needed.

Thanks for the word of caution....

Nobody and I mean nobody can figure out a reason as to why we can't use the phone on our BlackBerries.

It is ridiculous to carry two devices around.

When changing to BB Connect, you do not have to register a new device with my company.... Just a password reset to perform the Enterprise Activation on whatever BB type device.

So I am trying to look out for the company and not charge for using two devices with a BB monthly charge.

So yes indeed back to the question.... If I cancel the BB only service with AT&T, do you think that would end up with my BES account removed within my company?

Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that your account on the BES server is linked to your PIN number attached to the particular device you are using. So if you activated with your BB Connect device, it probably already removed the original BB from the BES Server database. Therefore, killing the BB Data plan for the original should have no effect on your service. Hope it works out!

Thanks. So you "think" that if I cancel the billed direct data only device (which currently does not have an active BB device tied to it), there would likely not be any communication from AT&T to my company to delete me off the BES?

That is my wish.
