What i did to the phone was that I restored 1.0.2 firmware, activated the phone via itunes legally, installed ringtones and wallpapers, ran apptap and installed community sources, bsd subsystem and openSSH; replaced the lockdownd file and installed iUnlock on the phone, BUT NEVER RAN IT.

With this said,

Can I factory restore the phone back to 1.0.2 and then update to 1.1.1 and not brik the phone?

I have researched it and found nothing specific enough to answer questions.

If you've never managed to alter the baseband firmware, then you'll be fine.

Meaning, if you've never attempted or successfully unlocked the phone, then you'll be able to upgrade without problems.

I heard you are unable to upgrade it because it will automatically lock up again.

how can i check to see if it wasnt altered? I noticed that the ringtones and the wallpaper i uploaded was still there

have you ever unlocked the phone with anysim or iunlock? If you have you will end up with a brick if you go to 1.1.1

I think I know the answer but am not sure... but what if you didn't actually do an unlock just did the activation bypass? If I am understanding correctly, that wouldn't change the baseband and I should be able to upgrade to 1.1 right? Thanks!

I did not run the iunlock. I had installed it but did not run it.

i activated it through at&t, ran installer and installed its programs, uploaded lockdownd and iunlock. I did not run iUnlock.

So i would assume that you can only change the baseband by jailbreaking the phone and running iunlock.
