Anyone actually unlocked virgin 1.1.1

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Has anyone actually purchased a new 1.1.1 firmware IPhone and sucessfully unlocked it? I have been intouch with iunlock.com and they said 1.1.1 can be unlocked but they didn't specify if you have to roll back to 1.0.2 or just simply run the ipsf software and that is all. I am looking for some replies from people who have purchased their iphones with 1.1.1 installed and unlocked it. If you could simply just tell me what or who you used to unlock it, because all the 1.1.1 unlock info is a bit sketchy imo. Thanks in advance.

I have a virgin, never touched 1.1.1 unlocked with IPSF.

You will have to jailbreak 1.1.1 before you can install SIMFREE 1.6. (The phone has to be writable) so in fact you will have to do a downgrade to 1.0.2 SOFTWARE but not touch the baseband.

It installs easily once the phone is jailbroken.

So far I have 1 phone that was a 1.0.2 upgraded to 1.1.1 and then downgraded to 1.0.2 to install the older IPSF on. I just upgraded that one to 1.1.1 yesterday with no problems.

The other phone was a replacement from Apple and came 1.1.1. That one was unlocked this weekend with IPSF 1.6.

Both were jailbroken (which meant downgrading to 1.0.2 software then reupgraded) and activated.

Both are working perfectly with all functions enabled, one on a Tmobile SIM the other on an legit AT&T SIM that I swap out for a Rogers when I need to

I used the guides found HERE

Thanks for the quick reply. Where did you buy your copy of ipsf from? I see some for sale for $100 and some $60 is there any differences? So basically i would need to follow the downgrade method listed on here to roll back to 1.0.2 without touching the baseband... Then jailbreak it.... Upgrade back to 1.1.1 then run the ipsf software?

I bought mine from UnlockedCellular.com

There's no difference in software. Some resellers just offer a better price than others. $100 was the initial release price. When the free methods came out they started offering it for %59. Some just chose to not lower the price.

basicly, you need to have Installer on your phone by whatever means youchoose to get it there.

As I said above (Sorry I edited my first post as you were replying) I used the guides foundHERE

Once you have Installer up and running on the 1.1.1 install follow the tutorial they give you when you buy the license to get SimFree on the phone then follow the tutorial they link you to to actually do the unlock.

it's painlessly simple. Takes all of about 16 minutes start to finish onec the phone is jailbroken in 1.1.1

Has any one tried the method on HOFO following link?

http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1257460

If so how was it?? Did you get it to be unlocked??

That's NOT an unlock.

That's a means of restoring your baseband to 1.0.2 after it was bricked.

it is NOT for virgin 1.1.1 phones.

it shpuld NOT be attempted if your phone is not bricked by the AnySIM unlock.

It specifically states:
Quote:
**This is for Advanced Users
How to Downgrade screwed up baseband 4.0 (after anySIM and 1.1.1 firmware upgrade).
UNBRICKING 1.1.1 UPGRADE
...
This downgrade method will not 'virginizes' your iPhones. (Vigirn Method Being Tested)

This method allows you to downgrade to 1.0.2 firmware and baseband -- if you go back to 111 after the procedure you still get a brick --but you can always downgrade again to have a working phone.
This method just gives you a workable 1.0.2 firmware phone.

The new unlock will be a clean unlock. It will be free and its coming soon.
anySim baseband fix is in progress, be patient.

I see... hmmm

Do you know if there is an Unlock for Virigin 1.1.1?

I have just purchased an iPhone with 1.1.1, only way I can unlock right now is by going IPSF?

Right? Is there any other way?

Thanks

The Dev team supposedly has an unlock in the works but forgive me if I sound jaded at that prospect.

They've done great work with their jailbreaks and apps but they dropped the ball when they released AnySIM. Having been burned once by their unlock I'm not willing to trust my phones to their method again.

To me, $60 is a small price to pay when dealing with a $400 phone. We used to pay almost that much (back in the early days) for a sync cable for a Moto phone.

have u tried ipsf method for 1.1.1??

red setter. Let's assume I buy a 111 phone and do the downgrade to 102, can I stop there, unlock and stay with 102?

You can, if you're so inclined. But only if you use IPSF. Downgrading to 1.0.2 doesn't change the baseband version (At least not easily. There are methods but they are not for factory 1.1.1 phones) so you will still have 4.x baseband phone. The 4.X baseband will not unlock with AnySIM currently

My question is - why stay at 1.0.2? If you can unlock the 4.X baseband why not just go back up to 1.1.1? It's only a few more steps and you have the current software. Why the need or desire to stay at an old firmware?

I was thinking about a second phone is all but i stay with 1.0.2 just because all the apps currently work on 1.0.2. When I am able to "virginize" my baseband i will prob do the update, assuming apptap is working!.

I would consider doing it now but from what I understand I have to purposely "ibrick" my phone, then downgrade and use IPSF then update again! Thats a lot of hoops considering my 1.0.2 works fine.

1 more question. Assume I go through the hoops of updating/brick, downgrading/ipsf unlock, re-upgrade.... I would then have a working/unlocked 1.1.1. What happens if I need to restore the phone? Will I restore to 1.1.1, downgrade to 1.0.2 to jailbreak, unlock with IPSF then update to 1.1.1 again? Or can you now jailbreak/activate with 1.1.1?

You do NOT NEED TO DOWNGRADE TO 1.0.2 to unlock it, as someone else said. I'm too lazy to look back.

Use the 1.1.1 TIFF Exploit in Safari to gain rw access to the root filesystem. Then use a special version of iPHUC to download the entire ramdisk from the phone (lol, open heart surgery?). You edit the fstab to enable rw access, and reupload.

Get SSH to molest SimFree.app to your phone and change the perms and you're off.

Unlocking took about 2 minutes for me.
