Apple factory unlocked phones!

Sent my 4gb phone into Apple for repair, Apple sent me a 8gb loaner while waiting for the other to return. The 8gb was new with the V1.0.2 firmware. First item I noticed was that it did not ask me to connect to itunes in order to activate. Without the sim wifi etc worked. Installing the AT&T sim then the phone worked fine. And never even connected to the computer. Didn't think too much of this. Then my 4gb was returned from service - Apple replaced it with a new phone but still V1.0.2. That has sat in the box untouched till today. And, I purchased a refurb. 8gb from Apple still with V1.0.2 last month - which required activation thru itunes.
So now I just received the Dual Sim kit (hyper-card) from Parker Tseng (excellent person to deal with A+++) and cut and installed a prepaid t-mobile card and prepaid AT&T card. This I installed in the 8gb phone that I bought from Apple and I had to do the activation again using independence. Works fine! My 4 gb that was sent from the repair facility I was selling since it was new and virgin. But just for the heck of it I inserted Parkers dual sim card and t-mobile came right up plus the phone saw the AT&T also. And works perfect - just need to set up the Edge. So now I tried the same in the 8gb loaner - worked perfect there also. And no conection to itunes or use of independence was needed.
Seems the Apple repair facility was shipping out unlocked phones. Needless to say the 4gb is not for sale now!
Any ideas?? Also the card from Parker is the only way to go!!!

Interesting thought bout the loaners but when you think of it it makes sense that the phones have to be easily activatable otherwise even legit AT&T customers will be renewing their contracts whenever they use the loaner and then get their own phones back. Maybe not a full unlock (since I'm sure they don't intend for you to put a Non-AT&T SIM in it) but more a pre-activated phone?

Can you give us a link? I have a few TurboSIM's still but if I can get something a bit easier/faster to acquire it would be a big help.

I'm not sure of the rules for posting links or email addys but here goes.
parkertseng (at) yahoo.com.tw Send him an email and he'll give you all the facts and price. He is pretty good at quick replies. Biggest trick is cutting the cards. Make sure he sends you a few templates and use a small pair of electronic diagonal cutters to cut the card. Or google for a "dual sim card cutter" I ordered one which should be here any day and I'll post an update on it.

Xacto knives FTW. I've cut a bunch of SIMS for TurboSIM already.

Thanks for the info
