TILT: Exchange contacts sync'ed, wrote to sim card, now dup in contacts

I have all my phone numbers and contacts on my exchange server. I setup my tilt to pull all of that. Then I decided to use the HTC SIM manager to write all the contacts to the SIM card. Now I have duplicates of every contact.

Did it write to the SIM card and copy them all back? Kinda freakin me out here

Ok, I freaked myself out again. I deleted all the contacts on the SIM. A bunch of flashing happened, the program refreshed. And all my contacts were back. But now they are not duplicated in my WM Contacts.

Whew.

Moral of the story, at least if you have exchange contacts, DO NOT SYNC TO THE SIM CARD. Maybe it does it automatically. It wasn't when i first put synced, but maybe it is now?

Does it auto sync?

Ugh, now my contacts are no longer on my exchange server!!! My outlook client has almost no data.

see if you just waited a bit and let us reply you would have learned that it's an OPTION to uncheck "Show SIM Contacts"

It's normally under Settings - Phone - All Calls - Call Options - "Show SIM Contacts" - all you'd have to do is uncheck that and they wouldn't show anymore.

For the other guy, maybe your contacts are still there. Mine were put in deleted items.

Also, I don't see that option, i'm still looking for it.

Well i'm not sure about the Tilt but it should have that option there too. All Windows Mobile phones i've had always had it but maybe i'm crazy. When you're in Contacts no options on the Menu button there either? One of my phones had that, i think the Mpx220 did.

I just noticed this happening on my device too and went digging for the option ->

I couldn't find the option anywhere on my Tilt but I did find a post on Modaco forums that talked about something similar on another device. It turns out there's a registry setting =

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Phone\ShowSim

by default it appears set to 0x1 (which shows the SIM contacts)

To hide those contacts on the SIM card you must set it to 0x0.

I made a quick cab file for anyone who wants to have a way to show/hide easily (can be uninstalled after installed). I generally place cabs like this in a folder on my SD card so I can easily re-add them if needed when doing ROM upgrades.

Maybe someone will still find the option through the normal user interface...?

Update --> looks like there's another cab you could use over at xda-developers

Guess I wasted some time refreshing my memory on cab building

very nice, i just found it here: http://www.modaco.com/Hide-sim-cont...Po-t257907.html

Thanks for the post! i've gotta try it now. I downloaded total commander for registry editing, what do you guys use on the tilt?

Posted by: nord0296

I bought a copy of Resco Explorer 2007 and use the registry add-in with that.

In the past (on other pocket pcs) I also used the free PHM editor and it seemed to work ok too.
